Tips from successful Online Direct Scouts!

Make a direct sales pitch over the phone, through email, text message and direct message on social media. For better results, create a video of the Scout’s sales pitch and send it directly (not in a group message)
Sell door to door using the Trail's End App and let Trail's End ship the product to your customers.
Create a Facebook event for the duration of the promotion and invite friends to join and comment in the event after they’ve made a purchase.
Try the 50-state challenge where a Scout tries to get sales from all 50 states. Successful Scouts tag friends and family on social media around the country and encourage them to share to help extend their social reach.
Share multiple times a week throughout the promotion so posts are always at the top of your friend's social media feeds.

Hi everyone! I’ll be sharing some Trails End Popcorn Community posts about Tips and Tricks from other PKs across the country to help you prepare for your sale.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be making a few “best practices” or “tips and tricks” posts to help you with your sale. I hope you find this info useful. Feel free to comment below if you have questions or if you have found a better way to do it. These are ideas on what has worked for my unit.

Today I wanted to talk about adding Scouts to your rosters.

First, I always recommend that new Kernels get Scoutbook (or whatever database system your unit uses) admin rights so that you can access all the contact information for the parents in your unit. It’s hard to send an email if you don’t their email address! Check your official roster against what is currently in the Trail’s End system. You want to make sure that all the scouts in your unit have the opportunity to sell!

Second, Scouts come and go, so you may need to remove scouts who are no longer in your unit. You can click on Unit Info then Scout Roster to check your roster. If there are scouts to remove just select Remove under the Actions dropdown menu. This doesn’t remove their account from the TE system… just from your roster. The next time that scout logs in it will prompt them to attach to their new unit.

Third, you’ll want to add in your new scouts who don’t currently have accounts with your unit. See the screen shots below. The easiest way is to click either the email or text icon at the top of the screen (yellow arrow) and then enter the scout’s name, parent’s name, and parent’s email. If you have a unit with older scouts, do not send to the scout directly so that you are not violating youth protection principles. Parents will get this email and if they click the link it will take them directly to your unit.

Alternatively, you can ask parents to text APP to 62771 and it will respond with a link to the Google or Apple Stores to download the app and create an account. If you go this route, your families will need to know the Council Name, District Name, and Unit Name in order to find and connect to your unit. Most families don’t know this information, so you’ll need to share it with them.

Occasionally you’ll see a random scout appear on your roster. This is because someone has inadvertently found your unit and attached themselves to it. It’s okay to remove them from the unit so that they are prompted to try again to find the correct unit.

💲💲 BUDGETING 101 💲💲

If you haven't already, this is the time of year to get your Unit Plan and Budget in place. I have attached a file that is helpful for your budgeting process and this file is also available in the Training tab on the leader portal

ITEMS TO CONSIDER:

*Uniforms - what does unit provide to Scouts and Leaders?

*Dues - what does unit pay for Scouts and/or Leader?

*Monthly Activities/Campouts - campsite fees, food, activity - who is paid for or are you charging a fee per event?

*Awards and Badges - what is the average cost per Scout?

*Equipment - Does the unit need new equipment or maintenance?

*Den Budget - for Packs do you provide a supplies budget for each Den?

*Awards Ceremonies and Banquets - unit paying for food and if so for who? Planning potlucks or catered. Budget for decorations, etc.

Once the plan and budget are in place then you can decide what goals you want to set for fundraising and communicate that out to parents. Transparency on budgeting in the unit and how the fundraising will lower what families pay out of pocket is key to getting parent buy in.

⏳I can't believe there's only 🔟 DAYS remaining in the year! If you have tips beyond those listed below, please share them in the comments.

Friendly reminders and helpful tips before the GMT zone strikes 2022 (12/31/2021 7PM Eastern Time - this time applies to all info below).

• 💳Be sure all Scouts have claimed their 2020 Rewards from their account, they follow Amazon.com terms (currently no expiration) after claimed, but they do expire from claiming in TE Rewards as we move into 2022.

• 💳All credit/debit and online sales from 2021 sales/TE Rewards concludes. Make sure to remind your Scouts that are still trying to reach their next goal.

• 📲The app will also automatically switch to 2022. Scouts should NOT enter sales in the app (or website) from 2021 inventory after 7PM ET, 12/31/21.

• Scouts will not be able to enter sales for 2021 past the time above; 💻Unit Leaders will need to enter them in the portal (cash transactions only). 💵

Storefront information/sales:

• 🏪Be sure all 2021 storefront sales are entered; you will not be able to enter 2021 storefront transactions/information or make changes once the system changes over

• 📷Take screenshots/record/download any information you think you may want from the Storefront Management tab. I.e. reports under each site are good to reference for next year.

Account Summary:

• 💵Many Unit Leaders find it handy to download the "payout history", for future reference.

Dashboard:

• 📥Download your Scout table for reference next year. This helps when you have Scouts go inactivate - you'll know exactly who needs reactivated.

Things to keep in mind as we roll into 2022.

• 💵Payouts - request the payout in the current year. i.e. If you are requesting your payout for 2021 sales and it is 12/31/2021 7PM ET (00:00 GMT)/the system has switched to 2022 campaign, please STAY in 2022 (current year at the time) while requesting the payout.

• 💳Submitting 2021 rewards - change the campaign to "2021 selling campaign". 2021 Rewards MUST be submitted by 3/31/2022.

• 💵Only CASH sales can be entered after the change over. Change campaign to "2021 selling campaign"

• 🍿Do NOT enter sales in "2022 selling campaign" for 2021 product (this would have a negative impact on your 2022 campaign) - 2021 items should be sold ASAP.

• ➡️Move Scouts after Jan 1, if they have moved to a new Unit.
