Meet Smoke. Smoke has difficulty controlling his excitement and impulsivity, so I am helping him with his impulse control.

We've been working together for a couple weeks now, and things are really starting to click for him.

In this image we are at the park, where other dogs are running around and having fun. He would really like to get out of the car and do some exploring, but what he has learned is that we are not going anywhere until he can control his excitement. I can't tell you how thrilled I was when he decided to lie down on his own, and calmly watch the world around him. It was a big jump for him!

There are lots of ways that dogs can display impulse control. Drop a picture in the comments and proudly show off your dog's ability.

Remus and I would like you to know that I will be teaching drop-in classes for Calm Focus, Saturday the 23rd and 30th.

I feel that this class is a strong component for the foundation of training. This helps your dog learn to be calm, and focused on you, in situations where they might otherwise be excited, and distracted.

Classes are very small to allow everyone the attention and guidance that is needed.

When dogs are not properly socialized as puppies, it can create a lot of stress and anxiety as adults. This adorable girl is learning how to be calm and comfortable on her bed in a public place. Although we have only been working together for a week, she is already showing much more confidence in her environment, and her people are very happy with her progress.

The first goal in our training was to be able to comfortably walk on a loose leash, even with distractions. And the second goal was to be able to calmly walk next to another dog.

Mission accomplished! 🐾🎉

These are reasonable goals, and they make life with our dogs so much richer. When you think about what you would like to accomplish with your dog, don't be afraid to dream big. Not only will you be happier when you accomplish goals, but your dog will be too. ❤️

I'm fostering this adorable dog, Vertebrae, for another week. She is learning basic dog socialization. She's come a long way in the days that she's been here, and I hope she finds her new home soon. It's so wonderful to have these other dogs that can help her find balance.

In this video there is a big black Malinois, a big red Doberman, a medium black border collie mix (Vertebrae), and a small mix. Quite the group, don't you think?
