🦴 It’s Give a Dog a Bone Week! 🐶❤️

Our dogs do so much for us—they make us laugh, keep us active, comfort us on tough days, and love us unconditionally. This week is the perfect excuse to spoil them a little!

Before you grab just any bone, remember that not all bones are safe for dogs.

🐾 Here are a few bone safety tips:
• Choose a size that’s appropriate for your dog’s mouth.
• Avoid cooked bones—they can splinter and cause serious injuries.
• Supervise your dog while they’re chewing.
• If a bone becomes small enough to swallow or starts splintering, it’s time to throw it away.
• If your dog is an aggressive chewer, ask your veterinarian what the safest chew options are.

Sometimes the best “bone” isn’t a bone at all! Durable veterinary-approved chew toys, dental chews, and enrichment toys can be great alternatives that help keep your dog’s mind engaged and teeth healthier.

🐱💙 Twister Kittens Update! 💙🐱

Well…sometimes our patients have other plans! 😅

Today was supposed to be a very exciting day—the Twister Kittens were scheduled to receive their very first vaccines, and we were planning to share the whole experience with you this afternoon.

Unfortunately, when we checked on them this morning, a few of our little tornado survivors decided to surprise us with some pretty significant diarrhea. 😿

The good news is they’re being monitored closely and receiving the care they need. ❤️

So why not vaccinate them anyway? 🤔

This is actually a great reminder that we generally don’t recommend vaccinating pets that aren’t feeling well. Vaccines work by stimulating the immune system, and when a pet is already sick, we’d rather allow their body to focus on recovering first before asking their immune system to respond to a vaccine.

Our goal is always to give vaccines when pets are healthy so they can develop the strongest 💪, most effective immune response possible.

We’ll get these little monsters feeling better first, then they’ll receive their first FVRCP vaccines as soon as they’re ready!

📹 Don’t worry—we’re still planning to film their first vaccine visit once everyone is back to feeling their best, and we’ll be sure to share it with all of you!

Please keep the Twister Kittens in your thoughts as they recover. We can’t wait to get them back to causing the right kind of chaos! ❤️🐾

Happy Monday Pet Wellness Center friends!

🐱🎉 **The Twister Kittens have a BIG day today!** 🎉🐱

It feels like just yesterday these little fighters came into our care after the tornado... and now they're growing up so fast! 🥹😭

Tomorrow is an exciting milestone because the Twister Kittens will be receiving their very first vaccinations!💉❤️

At Pet Wellness Center of Southern Illinois, we typically recommend kittens begin their vaccine series at 8 weeks of age. The first vaccine they'll receive will be their FVRCP, which helps protect against several serious diseases, including feline panleukopenia (sometimes called feline distemper) and common viral upper respiratory infections that can make kittens very sick.

Vaccinations are one of the best ways to give kittens a healthy start in life, helping protect them while their immune systems are still developing.

📹 **Be sure to check back this afternoon!** We'll be sharing a behind-the-scenes video of the Twister Kittens' very first vaccine visit. We can't wait to show you how they did (we promise there will be plenty of adorable kitten moments)!
