Dyna Update 10/26/26 9:45 am

So this morning I woke up and Dyna had slept PERCHED!!!!!

We also got more details back on her CT:

- mild bilateral rhinitis (sinus passages had gunk in them, but they flushed them at the vet so should be good there)

- arthritis worse than we initially thought, but definitely still managemable. She is worse in the right knee, but both are bad. She has an intraarticular mineral body in between the joints on the right side (basically a floating little granule in there made of mineralization from the arthritis). There's also some fusing of bones from arthritis in her wings. Essentially the arthritis is the biggest issue and we are treating that with positive results.

- has atherosclerosis (hardening of arteries)

- slightly enlarged heart but may or may not be a significant finding as there isn't a lot of comparison data available by which to measure

All in all.....she's senior. She has senior problems and her past life didn't help her much. While her species can reach up to 50 years in age, as with us, that often requires care taken in the younger years. We obviously don't know beyond our short interaction upon getting her what her past was like, but we presume not the healthiest. Regardless, we will continue to care for her, control her pain, provide accommodations, and provide all the love until her time is up regardless of how long that may be.

Can you believe this is Victoria?! Ms Tori now 💕 She was one of the "feathered five" we took in.

Look at that beautiful smile! She's allowed to roam around the house and has been keeping an eye on her new mama via light fixtures 😂

This weeks available birds!

Disclaimer - this is not a show up with money take the bird type of situation. These birds are deeply cared for and we do everything in our power to make sure they go to the best home possible. Many of these birds once lived with someone who loved them very much, myself included, and I always want to be able to answer, "How is Blu/Ash/Miles doing?". We keep in contact with our owners who surrendered to us as well as those who adopt.

The first step is submitting an adoption application. Then completing an identification verification (For the safety of the birds and ourselves as we are an in-home rescue). Our adoption contract states that if you cannot keep one of our birds FOR ANY REASON, they MUST be brought back to us. We are also more than happy being your "in case of emergency" home for any of our adopted birds.

After an approved application and identification verification you come meet the birds!!!! Finally the fun part!

We do adopt out of state in certain circumstances, but people are generally required to make at least 2 visits with their bird of choice so we can assess fit. I get that can be difficult, so in those situations, the best course of action would be to make a weekend of it. You can meet on Sat and then again on Sun and if all feels right, go home with your new family member! May of our adopters come multiple times to interact with the bird they want to adopt.

This was after I got home from bringing some of the birds to my local vet. I left the cage there unlocked and Papa, ever the treat fiend put himself in there to eat the remaining treats!

Dyna update 10/22/26 8pm

She's now climbing, perching, chatting, and just in general feeling better!!! It's so wonderful to see her like this! She hasn't been this active since she originally came to us. Those pain meds REALLY helped.

I added a list of everything that was done as well as her discharge instructions. She has to start birdy physical therapy!!

Dyna Update: 10/21/26 5:30 pm

Got the remainder of bloodwork back and some new information.

1. An ophthalmologist checked out her eyes and one of them is sensitive to light. She will be getting diclofenac eyedrops for that.

2. Her kidney values, while still elevated, were actually lower than 2 months ago. Dr still thinks kidney disease is there, just possibly not as bad as we initially thought.

3. F***l returned nothing out of the ordinary so will go with a sulfa based antibiotic.

4. Will be receiving Gabapentin and Tramadol up to 3x daily to help with arthritic pain.

5. We need to continue encouraging as much water drinking as we can so mixing in a little apple juice with no added sugar to her daily water.

6. We will follow up in 1 month to see how the treatments are going and if we've made improvement.

The vet is very pleased with her state now and we are still on course to get her back in the morning!

Dyna Update: 10/21/26 4 pm

Vet called this morning to tell me she was about the same as yesterday and felt she was stable and that they could go ahead and do her CT and bloodwork.

Got another call during sedation to let me know she was doing ok still.

Got another call after she came out of sedation saying she handled it well and was recovering. She was recovering so well in fact that she seemed in better condition than when I brought her in yesterday!

Got another call after some bloodwork was back and the CT was read. Problem 1: she has a ruptured cervical air sac which contributed to her breathing difficulties. Vet said they typically resolve on their own and we would just monitor it. Likely a result of a fall in her cage. (We are removing all elevation from her cage) No organs looked off, distended, or abnormal in any way. Problem 2: She does have arthritis in her right knee and hip which is likely part of why she doesn't walk great and sometimes falls. We will treat that with meds. Problem 3: Her WBC was double what it was 2 months ago when we brought her in. She'll be getting antibiotics for that. Problem 4: She had A LOT of gas in her GI tract so we are having a f***l done to determine if it's fungal or bacterial and help the doctor know which antibiotics or other meds to prescribe. Also while she was sedated they went ahead and trimmed her bottom beak (it was a little long) and nails, as well as flushing her nasal passages (so she wouldn't have to go through it awake - I bathed her and cleaned them as best I could when we got her but apparently it was much deeper than I was able to reach).

Vet also wrote me a prescription for the Roudybush Renal diet if I wanted to try it. I'm still looking into it. She said, though, that Dyna is looking like a whole new bird - talking to her, engaging with her surroundings, snuggling her, not sleeping as much - so all of that is VERY promising.

We should have the remainder of the labs shortly which will tell us renal values and whether that has gotten worse, but so far, all issues treatable. Good thing we didn't just give up!

She's going to stay hospitalized one more night just so they can make sure she stays great after sedation and keep an eye on anything that might go wrong. I can pick her up first thing tomorrow morning and I can't WAIT to see her!
