COGRC is proud of our junior member Carly and her corgi, Belle. They placed 2nd in their second Open JWW qualifying run at the Scissortail Agility Trial in El Reno, OK this past weekend. Plus, Carly had a fun birthday on Saturday, turning 12πŸŽ‚

Did You Know? Nous, a yellow Wavy-Coated Retriever, and Belle, a Tweed Water Spaniel, were the original breeding pair used by Lord Tweedmouth. Their puppies became the foundation for all Golden Retrievers.

πŸ¦† COGRC members enjoyed a full morning at Field class!

9 dogs and 6 handlers in total. Kicked off the class bright and early with 4 dogs running 17 blinds and pile work as some work up to blinds.

Then on to marks, which were varying degrees of difficulty walking singles from 2 gunners. 9 dogs ran approximately 55 marks! Wide range of ages and skill levels.

HELP WANTED!!!!!
Please consider volunteering to help at the 2026 GRCA National Specialty and Field Trial! For the Field Trial/Hunt Test/WC/WCX - we are looking for gunners, Marshalls, Throwers and hospitality helpers. At Island Grove, we have the following needs in Agility, Scent Work, Obed/Rally stewards, Armband Table, Catalog Table, Grooming Set up (you can get in there early), Merchandise Table, Raffle, Health Clinics, Track layers, CCA, Welcome Banquet, Parade of Titleholders, Hospitality, and Decorations. For most, no experience necessary.
For working 4 hours, you'll receive a meal voucher to be used at Island Grove or lunch at the field event and work 8 hours--receive a volunteer gift!

The following changes have been made to CCA events held at Regional and National Specialties (Res 26-08), effective July 1, 2026:

𝐅𝐨𝐫 π‘πžπ π’π¨π§πšπ₯ 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐚π₯ π’π©πžπœπ’πšπ₯𝐭𝐒𝐞𝐬

In keeping with the educational purposes of the CCA program, the following policies will take effect July 1, 2026:

⚫ Priority Entry: CCA events held in conjunction with a GRCA Regional or National Specialty shall give priority entry, via random draw, to Golden Retrievers that have not previously earned a CCA title, and are owned by a GRCA member.
⚫ Mandatory Presence: The owner, co-owner and/or breeder of the dog must be present in the ring during the evaluation.
⚫ Assistance: A runner will be provided by the host club if physical assistance is required during the evaluation.

Intermediate obedience class wrapped up tonight with these four smiling teams earning their AKC Canine Good Citizens titles. COGRC members Shari and Richard Cathcart were wonderful instructors leading them to the CGC testing, and Angela Whinnery tested/evaluated the students & dogs for their CGC titles.

Congratulations to the teams, and also to the Beginning class students who finished their obedience session tonight too.

Looking forward to seeing everyone next Fall when all levels of obedience and rally classes resume!

Huge congratulations to Susan Kassees. Her girl Spanx went Best of Breed in Lake Charles Louisiana earning a 5 pt major over specials and then a a Group 1!! With both majors already, it won’t be long before she earns her Championship.
