A good quality tool is always appreciated in the garden.

This long handled three prong cultivator was brought home by my husband (from Wilco). His hope was that it would be of little interest to me but he soon realized this wouldn't be the case (as usual).

This tool has become a top favorite of mine this season. It is great for mixing in compost and soil amendments into smaller beds. It makes tucking in new plants between overgrown one's a breeze. Best of all, the handle length makes for quick and easy work without much strain which I'm sure we all can appreciate after hauling around wheelbarrows full of stuff all day.

I have been gracing cottage gardens for generations. My petals are like tissue paper and come in a wide range of colors to delight every gardener. I bring a lightness to the garden and sway easily with the breeze.

I prefer to be planted when the weather is cool. Pollinators enjoy visiting my blooms, and if allowed to go to seed, I may even surprise you by returning in years to come. While each bloom is short lived, there always seems to be another waiting to open.

Star scabiosa isusually grown for its incredible seed pods. I'm a bit in awe that more people don't cut and arrange with the flowers more. They are a striking grayish purple color that really is unudual and quite stunning.

For best vase life for annual and perennial scabiosa, cut when first outer flower petals just are starting to open (and, of course, when its cool outside).

There is a sweetness in the garden this time of year that asks you to slow down and lean in.

It begins in the curl of the vines and the first soft petals opening along the trellis, then suddenly the garden is filled with that unmistakable fragrance drifting through the air. Sweet peas are never loud flowers. They are delicate, romantic, and a little fleeting, which is part of what makes them feel so special.

They invite us to notice the small beautiful things growing right in front of us.

I’m known as a classic bedding plant, but I was originally a much taller plant. I come in a variety of colors, from bright oranges and yellows to muted maroons and even white. My blooms are easy to spot in the garden and bring color from summer until frost.

I’ve been grown in gardens for centuries. I love the heat and thrive during the warmest months of the year. The more you cut me, the more blooms I will send up, making me a cheerful addition to bouquets and arrangements.

What an incredible nursery season it has been.

Sharing the excitement of a new growing season, celebrating the first blooms, and hearing about the flowers finding their way into your gardens has brought me so much joy these past few months.

Summer is settling in, and we're clearing out the remaining plants before the nursery closes for the season on June 6.
