At Bark Busters, we always say we don’t just train dogs — we train the people behind the leash too. 🐶

Your dog looks to you for guidance, leadership, and communication every single day. That’s why real, lasting change happens when owners learn how to clearly communicate in a way their dog understands.

The truth is, even the best dog can struggle without consistency, boundaries, and confident leadership. When owners gain the tools and confidence to lead calmly, dogs naturally become more relaxed, responsive, and well-behaved.

That’s what makes Bark Busters different. We focus on strengthening the relationship between you and your dog so the results last far beyond the training session. Because a well-behaved dog starts with an informed, empowered owner. ❤️🐾

Dogs don’t instinctively understand children, and children don’t instinctively understand dogs. Teaching kids clear, simple rules around dogs helps prevent fear, stress, and unsafe situations for everyone involved.

These rules aren’t about limiting fun! They’re about building respect, confidence, and safety in every interaction.

1️⃣ Never approach a strange dog, even if the owner is present. Always ask first, and wait for permission.

2️⃣ Leave dogs alone when they’re eating or sleeping. These are moments when dogs need space.

3️⃣ No teasing, pulling, or rough play. Never pull ears or tails, because dogs feel pain too.

4️⃣ Stay away from a dog that’s tied up. They might be alone or unsupervised and you don’t know if they’re friendly.

5️⃣ If a dog barks or runs toward you: Stand still, cover your face and stay calm. If knocked down, curl into a ball, cover your face, and stay as still as possible.

Teaching kids how to behave around dogs is just as important as training the dog itself.

Dogs and children can form beautiful bonds—but those relationships require guidance, structure, and supervision.
Even well-behaved, loving dogs can become overwhelmed or confused in fast-moving, unpredictable situations. These tips are designed to help families create calm, respectful, and safe environments where both children and dogs can thrive.

1️⃣ Never leave a child or baby alone with a dog.
Even the most loving dog can react unpredictably without supervision.

2️⃣ Supervise food interactions.
Do not allow children to feed dogs unsupervised, and never allow dogs to sn**ch food from a child.

3️⃣ Adults handle the dog, not kids
Children should not walk dogs alone, pull on collars, or discipline dogs, because these situations can escalate quickly.

4️⃣ Teach toy differentiation and address possessiveness.
Your dog and your children should know which toys are theirs. Any possessiveness in dogs, even early signs, should be addressed right away.

5️⃣ Teach respect from a young age.
Dogs are living, breathing beings, not toys. Children should learn early how to treat dogs with calmness and respect (e.g. no pulling on ears or tails).

Creating safe, calm relationships between kids and dogs starts with education and leadership 🤝

⏰ Daylight Saving Time can totally throw your dog off, even though it’s only an hour.

To help your dog adjust more easily before March 8th:
👉 Shift routines gradually. Start adjusting meals, walks, and bedtime by a few minutes each day leading up to the time change.
👉 Keep structure consistent. Even if the timing shifts, try to keep the order of daily routines the same so your dog knows what to expect.

A little preparation goes a long way in helping your dog feel calm and confident through the change.

Thinking about adding a dog to your family? One of the first big decisions is whether a puppy or an adult dog is the right fit.

Here are a few things to consider:
Puppies require a lot of time, structure, and patience. They need potty training, socialization, and guidance as they learn how to live in our world. However, they also give you the opportunity to shape habits and routines from the very beginning.

Adult dogs often come with more predictability. Many are already house-trained and past the chewing and teething stage, but they may bring learned behaviors or past experiences that need understanding and support.

There’s no “better” choice, only the right choice for your lifestyle, schedule, and expectations.

Regardless of age, every dog benefits from clear communication, consistency, and guidance to help them feel safe and confident in their new home.

Meet RIPKEN CALHOUN WEXLER! 🧡This sweet boy is OUR newest addition! We adopted him 16 weeks ago at 12 weeks old from a Pit Bull rescue. He is now almost 6 months old. We are in full “puppy training”mode! It’s been a busy few months with potty training, crate training, socialization, leash walking manners and so much more. We have also been working with our older dog, Gracie, with her anxiety and fear of other dogs due to trauma when she was younger. We had to help her realize that we can keep her safe and help her become confident with her new brother. We have made HUGE strides with both Ripken and Gracie. Communication, trust, respect and consistency is what it takes. Living in harmony is such a great thing!

The best place to train your dog? Home sweet home. 🏡🐾

Just as you train your dog how to behave in greetings, don’t be afraid to train your guests how to greet your pet!

Not every dog wants to be greeted right away with high energy, and that’s okay. True socialization means giving your dog space, time, and choice when meeting new people.

When guests follow calm, respectful guidelines, dogs can approach at their own pace and build trust naturally. This leads to more relaxed visits and fewer stress-related behaviors. 🏡🐕

One of my favorite parts of working with families is seeing that “aha” moment — when everything clicks and both dogs and owners start communicating with confidence.

Many of our dogs make huge strides in just one session, When you focus on understanding your dog instead of controlling them, the transformation is incredible. 💚

As a trainer, this is one of my favorite things to see during the holiday season — a dog who finally feels calm, confident, and understood, and a family who knows exactly how to communicate with their pup. When everyone’s speaking the same language, the holidays get a whole lot more peaceful. Fewer door-dash dashes, calmer greetings, less table-surfing, and more of those warm, snuggly moments we all look forward to.🎄🎁

Here’s to a season filled with harmony, happy dogs, and homes that feel a whole lot brighter because of it. 💚🐶
