Lets try this again, my first post didn't finish uploading.
I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend. I did take a little time off for the weekend, but I'm back at it. Meet my new lab assistant, her name is Noki (like Enoki mushrooms).
I'm still having paint issues on the lab ceiling, so the lab is delayed. Time to change gears and put up a temporary lab to get production started.
This weekend I moved the microgreens grow tent the the basement and it will be the temporary mushroom lab (thanks for the idea Nick). The small temporary lab setup is hours from being completed. I will have it up and running this week.
Supplies finally showed up Saturday so I could continue mixing and sterilizing liquid cultures.The second batch of liquid culture jars are now sterilized and cooling. One more batch of jars to go this week. I may try sterilizing some oats this week to push production up a few weeks.
I'm taking my time at the beginning. One small mistake can ruin everything, and I will have to start over with the liquid cultures. There are so many small steps in mushroom production. Microgreens were so much easier and less technical. I'll figure out the mushrooms as I get production up and running.

It was a positive day for the mushrooms. Today I did my first lab work. I mixed the dry mix for liquid cultures, I feel a half a gallon of liquid culture dry mix will last awhile. I didn't get pictures of the lab work it's hard to keep sterilized and take pictures. I also mixed and sterilized my first jars of liquid cultures. The liquid cultures get sterilized in a pressure cooker for now. I'm hoping to work my way up to an autoclave in the future. Tonight the jars will cool and I'll check them tomorrow.
The goal this week is big steps the mushrooms. I need to get liquid cultures multiplying in jars and mores jars in liquid cultures sterilized. After that I'll try get some grain bags sterilized and enculated with some mushroom cultures. Its always fun trying new stuff.
I'm not forgetting about the microgreens people. The first Farmer's Market is July 26th. I'll start planting microgreens by next weekend.

Hey everyone, welcome to summer. Life has kept me busy lately I know I haven't posted much lately. Things are always moving in the background. Today was like Christmas for me!
Most of my mushroom liquid cultures are finally here, I'm still waiting on a handful more. Time to start unboxing the equipment and supplies I've been collecting for the past couple of years. It's amazing trying to remember all the equipment thats just been sitting in storage. The lab equipment needs cleaned and checked over, but most of it is looking good.
The next step is taking those 10mm culture syringes and multiplying the cultures to 1000mm and 2000mm each. Looks like its lab work time!
As a first time mushroom grower I expected to make mistakes in my learning curve, just like the microgreens. I will keep posting progress if it's successful and setbacks. We are still a couple of months from seeing a fruiting flush of mushrooms if everything goes one my first grow cycle. It's still my goal to bring the highest quality and largest selections of gourmet mushrooms to my customers.

My first liquid cultures have arrived. I'm still waiting on the majority of my liquid cultures, but it will be a start. Hopefully the mad scientist will get started with some lab work next week. 💉🔬🧪🍄

Somedays are good days, other days are setbacks. I guess I didn't prep the ceiling good enough in the lab for paint. I had to start over today scraping and power washing. Time to let it dry a few days now.
For the second setback of the month my supplier for my mushroom cultures lost my order. That will put me about a month behind on mushrooms.
On the positive side. Every day I work on the the old bank building is one day closer to making a dream a reality. I got this!

What a difference a couple of months makes! From old records Vault to my mycology lab.
Cleanup was a mess. The rotting shelves, and nasty carpet for 1977 had to be removed. Today the first coat of primer was sprayed on walls and ceiling. More painting and installing the new door are the next steps. It time to start shopping for new lights and building a large work bench for the flow hood. Most to the lab equipment is here just waiting to be setup. I'm getting closer everyday to getting these gourmet mushrooms started. I got this!

I've been a little lazy about updates. Still a lot going on in the building. More old walls coming down due to water damage over the years. Lots of cleaning as I get ready for the farmer's markets. The mushroom growing area is coming long, its slower progress than I was planning. I'm hoping to get the lab painted this weekend. I'm learning how build all of this as a go, and its been interesting.
I started working with the Wyoming department of Agriculture on becoming a licensed mushroom and microgreens grow facility. There will be huge changes to the building coming in the next few weeks.

I finished my first public speaking on microgreens at the Master Gardeners Spring Conference. It was a new experience. I hope I got enough information to the people.
