Hi folks, Savannah here with some important information!

Important Update Regarding Adoption Applications and Service Area

We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support our parrot rescue has received recently. While the increased visibility helps our mission, it has also led to a significant influx of inquiries from outside our service area, creating a substantial backlog for our volunteer team.

To ensure we can prioritize local families and process applications efficiently, we would like to clarify a few key points of our adoption process:

Adoption Requirements & Radius

Our priority is the long-term success of our birds and their new families. Because of this, we strictly adhere to the following:

Location: Adopters must reside within a 2-hour radius of Edgerton, WI.

In-Person Visits: Multiple visits with a bird are required prior to adoption. We do not facilitate same-day adoptions.

No Shipping: We will never ship our birds under any circumstances.

Application Status & Backlog

We are currently working through a high volume of messages and applications. Please keep the following in mind:

Communication: We are reaching out to qualified applicants via email. Please monitor your inbox and your spam/junk folders closely.

Incomplete Applications: To maintain an efficient process, incomplete applications are automatically declined. If you believe you omitted information, you are welcome to resubmit a complete version for review.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and your role in sharing our mission. Your cooperation allows us to focus on what matters most: connecting our feathered friends with their forever homes.

We look forward to connecting with our local applicants soon!

Meet Adoptable Pair: Melody & Lyric

Species: Black-Masked Lovebirds
Ages: ~3 years (Melody) and ~5 years (Lyric)

Status: Bonded Pair

Meet the Dynamic Duo

Melody (Yellow/Brown) and Lyric (White/Blue) are a stunning pair of Black-masked lovebirds with a bond that is truly heartwarming to witness. While they are distinct individuals, they function as a team: Melody, the younger of the two, acts as the brave leader and scout, while the slightly older Lyric relies on her confidence to navigate the world.

Personality & Potential

Currently, Melody and Lyric are "people-watchers" rather than snugglers. They are naturally reserved and unsure of human interaction, preferring to seek comfort in one another. However, for the right adopter, this presents a unique and fulfilling opportunity. They are not just looking for a home; they are looking for a patient guide to help them bridge the gap between fear and trust.

The Ideal Home

We are seeking a special adopter who finds joy in the journey of behavioral transformation. Melody and Lyric require a home with:

Patience: An understanding that trust is earned in small steps, not giant leaps.

Experience: A background in bird training is highly preferred. These two are excellent candidates for positive reinforcement training, specifically recall training, to help build their confidence.

Dedication: A willingness to work slowly toward the goal of hand-taming at the birds' own pace.

If you are an experienced bird lover looking for a meaningful project with a beautiful pair of avian souls, Melody and Lyric may be the perfect match for you.

How to Adopt

To request a meet-and-greet with this pair, please complete our adoption questionnaire:

Meet Jessie.

Jessie is a 30+ year old assumed male Blue and Gold Macaw.

After being here at FFSR for a bit, Jessie is finally starting to open up a bit and show us some of his personality. He has been quite timid so far.

Being here in the Sanctuary can be a scary experience, and Jessie is a careful observer, just taking it all in. We have a feeling he's quite goofy, though, based on the times he's been "caught" being cheeky.

It should be noted that Jessie has been reported to have had seizures after consuming walnuts in the shell. Walnuts out of the shell and all other nuts have seemed to be of no issue.

Jessie will need a human with patience, an understanding of macaws, and the ability to provide structure, love, proper nutrition, and enrichment.

To meet Jessie, a complete questionnaire is required. All large bird adopters should note that MANY visits to the Sanctuary will be required. All applicants should live within a 2 hour radius of Edgerton, WI.

Meet Big Boy.

Big Boy is an unknown aged assumed male Umbrella Cockatoo.

Big Boy has really just learned how to be a cockatoo. His previous life didn't offer much chance for being a "normal" cockatoo in captivity, so he doesn't really know what to do with himself most days.

Big Boy is happiest when given plenty of opportunities and space to play, dance, destroy paper, and scream with the best of them, in true cockatoo fashion!

Big Boy LOVES walnuts and especially in shell walnuts. He loves to crack them open!

He is VERY unsure of humans still. He WILL let you give him some scritches from the safety of his cage. Big Boy needs a human he can learn to trust, and once that happens, Big Boy is very likely to be an amazing companion!

To meet Big Boy, fill out and return our adoption questionnaire on the website. www.feathered-friends.com/adoption

All cockatoos require a house without children under 12 present.

Multiple visits are required - please expect to make at least 5 trips to work with your bird prior to bringing them home.

All cockatoo adopters must have large bird ownership experience. (Cockatoo, macaw, grey, eclectus, amazon, etc.).

Birds are only available for adoption to those who live within 2 hours of Edgerton, WI.

Happy Gotcha Day to Peach!

Peach was a silent observer here and she took her time deciding who she would trust enough to open up to. She met her new family and slowly let them in, and their patience and understanding of her needs led to the trust needed for Peach to deem them worthy of her affection.

Now, she's off to spend her days dinosaur-attacking their shoes and glasses and hanging out on their shoulders for snuggles.

We are so happy for you, Peach!! Have a beautiful life!

Congratulations, Peach and flock!

A totally true conversation at FFSR:

Bubba: Hi Bubba

Me: Hi Bubba

Bubba: Are you a good bird?

Me: I'm not a bird, I'm a human.

Bubba: Bye-Bye

Me: Rude.

Bubba: ......

Meet Bubba.

Bubba is an approximately 8 year old male Yellow Crown Amazon.

Bubba is a funny bird, and he'll melt your heart with his goofy antics, but he's an Amazon, and Amazons take some time to warm up to humans. So when meeting Bubba, be patient and open to forming a bond on his terms. Once he decides you're a safe human, you'll see a bird that's capable of being your long-time best friend! He's young, so keep that in mind as well.

To meet Bubba, go to the link in the comments, read our adoption page, and fill out the questionnaire!

ALL ADOPTERS MUST LIVE WITHIN 2 HOURS OF EDGERTON, WISCONSIN.

Hi. I'm Max.

I'm a 40-year-old male, Blue and Gold Macaw.

I can be a little nervous around new people, but once I'm familiar and comfortable with someone, I deem them a pretty cool bird and decide we can be friends!

Some of my favorite pastimes include eating, hanging out on my cage and dancing, shredding some high-quality toys to bits and pieces, and taking all the loving scritches you can offer.

I, like most Macaws, have a mix of playful and mischievous behaviors that I'll be happy to keep you guessing with. You'll never be bored with me around!

I will make a great companion for someone with large bird experience. To meet me, a complete and approved questionnaire is required.

The humans require MULTIPLE visits with us, the birds, prior to adoption, so all applicants should live within 2 hours of Edgerton, WI. Adoption questionnaire link is in the comments!
