For those choosing to get their next puppy from a breeder, age of the parents matters greatly.
First and foremost is health. The way to guarantee health is with age and proven health through generations prior. Most serious health concerns come after year 5, so if the parents are 2-3 you have no clue if they will be healthy later on in life. If a breeder canā€™t show great health in their genetics why breed those lines?
The ideal ages to breed females are 4-6 while males should be 8+.
Epigenetics are traits that can be learned and passed down. As animals age they become wiser and understand more in life, some of which can be passed down to the puppies.
Itā€™s interesting and unclear what can be passed down, but absolutely has an effect on the litter.
The first ~6 weeks of a puppyā€™s life should not be hectic, but rather calm and quiet. The parents need to show puppies this, not get all worked up over nothing, be chill parents.
Younger parents struggle with that.

Bottom line, listen to those who have preceded us and succeeded. Donā€™t breed young dogs. Donā€™t breed a dog unless it checks EVERY single box. Donā€™t breed a dog unless you have buyers lined up. Donā€™t breed a dog if the market is saturated!

Quality breeding matters and is needed, undesirable breeding is the problem.

Sydney is a fabulous swimmer, very efficient. She can already out pace Scarlett!

No Sydney isnā€™t tired, she will relax and rest/sleep anywhere as long as Iā€™m close by. Her drive in life is social connection, being close to a human or dog. Itā€™s a genetic trait that makes for the best family/therapy dog.
I would love to see Sydney become a therapy dog at a school, preferably local so I can finish her training. If anyone can help out with this please do! Dogs like her are special and need that extra special role in life to be fully utilized.
