We're having our annual Holiday Farm Tour this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, November 30 and December 1. If you are in the area, stop by to visit the alpacas and pick up some Christmas gifts in our 'Alpaca Boutique'. (Ok, it's really our living room dressed up as a boutique.) Lots of alpaca socks, mittens, hats etc. And yarn of course!! Follow the signs from Rte 153.

Look what just came out of the oven. Yarn dyed two shades of green.

Troubadour broke his lateral toe on his right front foot and was walking with difficulty on three legs. He's all taped up and on 'pen rest'. How he did it is a mystery. The splint lets him walk on it without touching his foot to the ground.

This is Henchi. He's 5 years old and needs a new home. He presently lives in Boxford, Mass. His parents are Shakira and Cowboy, so he's a big love. He's never lived with other cats. He's had calm dogs visit and is fine with them. He's always lived with older people in a quiet home. Picked up yarn from the mill yesterday. 123 skeins!! It is processed by animal, so you know from whom it came. Next step is to wash it all, to fluff it up and get rid of the spinning oils. Man, I love alpaca yarn!!

Gave the alpacas a shower with the hose. MoonDance likes to lay down after she's wet so she gets muddy legs and neck. They all went out to pasture shortly after. Cool enough now to enjoy the field. Dry grass is better than no grass...

I don't remember when we last had such a cold winter. It started in December and continued through January. Temps have been in the single digits or below zero numerous times, without going up much during the day. I know during the first few years we had cold like that, but not recently. Some weather man on the local Portland TV station said we were having the coldest winter since 2013....

Finally finished this Sampler Afghan. The teal dyed yarn came from the first alpaca, Dreamweaver, born on our farm in 2002 and the cream is from the last one, Athena, born in 2015. Axel, Cracklin' Rosie and Judy Blue are also represented.

The shearer and his team came last week, right in the nick of time before the heat. We harvested bags and bags of fiber from the herd, and the bags are safely stored in our fleece room, also known as Dick's 'equipment room'. Dual purpose with the focus on protecting the contents from Ragdoll cats....

In March we had a few days into the sixties and the alpacas were ready to go to pasture. Of course, there was still snow on it. Green grass is a favorite food for alpacas. However, in northern New England it is only around for a few short months. The rest of the time, they are stuck with hay. No grass yet …...

A lot around the farm has changed in the past five years. But we are still here, with alpacas, Ragdolls and dogs. However, some of the crew are different now. Here's a few of the changes. The alpacas are aging and our herd is now down to twenty. That does seem like a lot, but we did get up to thirty-two or so, a few years back....
