🤍 “I know I’m just a horse…”
But oh, how much that presence means.
When the world is falling apart, when your heart is shattered,
he doesn’t speak — he just stands beside you.

A horse doesn’t ask “why,” doesn’t demand explanations.
He simply rests his head on your shoulder,
and somehow, that’s enough to keep you going.

His gaze heals more than a thousand words.
His silence speaks louder than any comfort.
His heart becomes your second one,
in case yours can’t carry the weight.

Because even if the whole world turns away —
he’ll stay.
Always.

Lately I've had several people ask if I thought maybe I was getting too old to manage owning a horse. I was startled by the question. Then I wondered if other "women of age" were being asked the same question. I decided to pen a poetic response. Let me know what you think. Melanie, publisher WARHorses.

"The Worth of A Horse"
My knees don’t bend like they used to do,
And hoisting the saddle feels something new.
The barn gets colder each passing year,
And sometimes I pause, held back by fear.

The grandkids call, the phone won't rest,
Appointments, chores—life’s endless test.
A creaking back, a stubborn hip,
A hand that shakes with every grip.

Yet in the stillness of morning light,
When frost turns gold and the reins feel right,
I hobble down where the shadows lie,
And find my truth in a horse’s eye.

He doesn’t care for time or pride,
Just quiet steps and a patient ride.
And for that grace, I bear the strain—
Each ache, each breath, each drop of rain.

For in that bond, I find my peace,
A moment's joy, a sweet release.
Though age may press and time may race,
It’s worth it all for that quiet place.
