🚨 Memorial Day Weekend ER Wish List 🚨
(From your friendly neighborhood ER veterinary team.)

Please don’t feed your dog corn cobs.
Please keep kebab skewers away from Labradors.
Please secure THC gummies somewhere higher than “counter height.”
Please remember that “just one hot dog” is rarely just one hot dog.
Please don’t let your dog drink lake water, puddle water, or mysterious camping water.
Please remember wet + chilly can still be hard on tiny, elderly, and short-haired pets.
Please keep antifreeze, citronella products, matches, and grill supplies out of reach.
Please double check gates, collars, and leashes before guests arrive.
And please remember: bored, rain-soaked dogs make surprisingly ambitious life choices.

We would genuinely love a quieter holiday weekend.

But if your weekend does take a turn — we’re here 24/7/365 for the pets who need us most. ❤️🐾

So many of you have been following the story of the two dogs attacked by a man with a machete. We wanted to give all of you an update — and a heartfelt thank you.

We saw Perish yesterday for follow-up care and are so happy to say he is healing wonderfully.

We’re also incredibly grateful to report that the care for both dogs has been paid for in its entirety through the combined efforts of a dedicated and loving pet owner, discounts applied by our hospital, the support of the Syracuse Police Department, the support of Cuse Pit Crew, and the overwhelming generosity of the Central New York community. Your compassion for pets and the people who love them continues to amaze us.

Cases like this are also exactly why we are establishing the VMC Cares Fund — our hospital’s charitable “Angel Fund” designed to help provide medical care for pets when financial limitations might otherwise stand in the way of treatment.

The VMC Cares Fund is a partnership with the Veterinary Care Foundation, a nonprofit organization developed to assist veterinary hospitals in providing care to clients with financial restrictions. VMC’s account with the Foundation operates under the larger Suveto Cares initiative, which provides participating hospitals with individual charitable accounts and starter funding. Donations made to the fund are tax deductible.

We’ll place links with more information in the first comment for anyone interested in learning more or contributing to future emergency cases like this one.

Thank you again for caring so deeply for the animals in our community.

Ma*****na toxicity in pets has become a common emergency as cannabis products become more common at home. Dogs are especially sensitive and even small amounts of edibles, concentrates, or v**e products can cause serious symptoms like stumbling, urinary incontinence, vomiting, agitation, tremors, low heart rate, or seizures. Edibles often contain chocolate, xylitol, or high fat, which can worsen the situation. If you think your pet has ingested ma*****na, contact your veterinarian or emergency care immediately. We’re here to help, not judge! 🐶❤️

🚨 Attention Cat Owners: Easter lilies are highly Toxic to cats—every part of the plant poses a risk, even water from the vase. Just a small ingestion or grooming pollen can cause severe kidney failure. Watch for symptoms like vomiting, drooling, lethargy, or loss of appetite—hours can make a difference. In case of exposure, seek emergency veterinary care immediately. 🩺✨ The best prevention? Avoid lilies around pets this Easter and opt for pet-safe decorations. Have questions? Our team is here 24/7 to support you! 🐾
