Hey IEVS clients!

We're very excited to welcome a special guest to our practice while Dr. Emily is on maternity leave!

From April 20th through April 24th, Dr. Andrew Cox will be joining the IEVS team as a visiting Veterinarian.

A little about Dr. Andrew:
-US Army Ranger
-Graduated from Mississippi State CVM with Dr. Emily in 2021
-Small Animal ER Veterinarian (FL, TX, UT, CA)
-Veterinarian for Marine Corps Equine Program & Pack Animal herd (CA)
-Special interest in Equine Podiatry

Outside of Vet Med, Dr. Andrew enjoys spending time outdoors with his family. He and his wife, Courtney, are the proud parents of three beautiful girls, and they share their home in Grand Junction, CO with their Australian Shepherd, Cash.

We're thrilled to have Dr. Andrew with us - appointments are filling up quickly, so reach out if you'd like to get on the schedule during his visit!

🤰🏼It’s that time, y’all!

💙Dr. Emily will be beginning her maternity leave April 7th and will be back the first week of May.

📱Dr. Emily will have her phone on for current client telemedicine appointments and emergency referral recommendations leading up to the time of her delivery.

🚛As always, with or without Dr. Emily around, please be ready to haul your horses in case emergency referral is recommended or Dr. Emily/covering Veterinarians are unavailable.

🧰In preparation for Dr. Emily’s leave, please check your trailers are roadworthy and your Emergency meds/supplies are stocked!
-banamine
-bute
-dorm gel
-bandage materials
-neopolybac or terramycin eye ointment
-fly masks
-betadine or chlorhexidine solution/scrub
-hoof abscess materials

👯‍♀️Please note that the IEVS team will remain available for tech appointments (vaccines/coggins/health cert exams) & med pick up, and Dr. Emily will also be offering telemedicine appointments when available.
Contact us at (386)316-4816 for scheduling.

🚑We will have local Veterinarians helping out with critical emergencies when available throughout Dr. Emily’s absence, and will have a visiting Veterinarian providing regular appointments as well as full emergency coverage from April 20-24th.

🫶🏻Help us make our relief/visiting Veterinarians feel welcome and appreciated—relief coverage is difficult to come by! Please contact (386)316-4816 with emergencies or concerns. We will direct you to the Veterinarian providing ER coverage at that time or have referral hospital recommendations posted.

💊The online pharmacy will be up and running per usual for med refills and new prescriptions.

‼️IEVS updates:

🚨Please plan ahead!
Please contact Dr. Pulliam at (386)316-4816 with emergencies or concerns. She will consult via tele-med or direct you to the Veterinarian providing ER coverage at that time.

🚚As always—Have a trailer or emergency transportion plan for your animals ready just in case hospitalization or referral are recommended.

🚨Please note!
Appointments are booking into March at this time, with limited availability in the beginning of April. Please contact the office via email at [email protected] with any appointment requests while Dr. Pulliam is out of town.

💊Prescription refills can be made through our online pharmacy any time — IEVS.covetruspharmacy.com

👩🏼‍🍼We are quickly approaching Dr. Pulliam’s time off in mid-April to mid-May. We will post more info regarding emergency coverage and appointment availability for that time frame in a few weeks.

‼️COLD WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENT‼️

❄️Brrrrrrrr! It is FREEZING!!!!

⛄️HUGE reminder for our horses and other livestock spending time outside in this chilly weather:

🙏🏻Please be patient with us— we have been experiencing a higher than normal emergency call volume due to COLD & DEHYDRATED critters!!

🙌🏻HELP US HELP YOU!!
Please do the following!!!!

👇🏻DOWN ANIMALS: you may notice your horses/other animals laying Down—they may be COLD! It has probably been a while since they got up to drink! Get them DRINKING & moving!

🧥BLANKETS: If you’ve got ‘em, go for it! Make sure they fit, with chest buckles clipped *toward* the animal so they don’t get stuck on nets etc…

🧂SALTS: Daily oral electrolytes, salt and/or mineral (loose or blocks) to increase drinking!!!

🍲SOUP: Add lots of water to daily feed or add 1-2 buckets of soupy feed/flavored water daily to improve hydration & gastrointestinal function (consider what is best for your animal nutrition-wise)

🏕️SHELTER: Make sure to have somewhere animals can hide from the cold & wind, and maybe some shavings/straw to bed down in! Blankets are great too!!!

🥬FORAGE: High quality forage for horses & livestock is VITAL!!! For horses—if you’re using round bales of ANY kind please ***use hay nets over top to avoid impaction colic!!***

🍲MORE SOUP: Does your horse have a history of choke? Consider soupy mashes and soaked hay rather than dry to help them thrive this winter! (Bonus: helps them stay hydrated!!)

🔥Be careful with heat lamps and other electric heating devices—keep safe distance from animals, we don’t want crispy critters!

🚑The average medical colic, choke, & dehydration treatment on farm costs owners between 500-1,500$—so let’s set your horses & livestock up for success!!

📱Call or text IEVS with any questions/concerns!!
