We are the Town of Huntington's municipal animal shelter and adoption center. We are responsible for the enforcement of town codes relating to domesticated animals. We care for and shelter both misplaced and surrendered dogs. Whether you are looking for a mature pet that is already housebroken or a puppy, we will help you find one that is just right for you!

Meet Lazarus! He is a stunning 1yr old white Shepherd mix who arrived at our shelter with 5 of his little mates. Sadly, Lazarus and his litter mates all arrived under socialized, fearful and in need of guidance. Over the past year, our staff has worked diligently to give Lazarus the socialization he always needed to thrive in a home environment. In time, we found Lazarus to be a friendly, inquisitive, goofy dog. Upon meeting new people, Lazarus will be guarded and unsure at first, but with some consistency, trust and the right person, we are confident he will warm up just as he did with our staff. Some of Lazarus’ favorite things are walks (which he is great at), being outside playing with his dog friends and chasing a tennis ball! Due to his breed, which is known to be high energy and intelligent, Lazarus struggles in his cage without an outlet or a job to stimulate his mind. This has caused Lazarus to have sadly been overlooked by potential adopters making him the last puppy of his litter yet to find a home. Lazarus would do well in an experienced, low traffic all adult home with the time and patience to help him thrive. If you think you may be a match for Lazarus, please contact us about setting up a one on one visit! Lazarus is neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped!

We are proud to announce that after months of medical intervention and lots of snacks along the way, our official greeter and the happiest dog ever, Lola, is in the home she always deserved! As you can see, Zoey is feeling down these days. It has been 2 weeks since her big adventure and sadly she has had little to no interest from potential adopters. Zoey still participates in daily playgroup and enjoys her walks as usual but it's obvious that she is not herself and is dreaming about those fun times she had! Zoey has and continues to make major strides in the right direction and we are very confident she will make a wonderful companion for the right family!

Meet Toby! Toby is a 7yr old pure bred Collie who came to our shelter after his owner could no longer take care of him. Aside from his stunning good looks, Toby’s personality is really what sets him apart from the rest. When he’s not participating in his favorite gentle/dainty style playgroup, Toby enjoys showing off his obedience by walking calmly next to his handler or doing tricks for treats! While Toby has great manners across the board, its important to point out that Collies are high maintenance and require a lot of upkeep (brushing, grooming, bathing etc) and Toby is no exception! Toby has passed his behavioral assessment with flying colors, showing no food or toy guarding issues. His ideal home would be an active family with the time to give him the attention he deserves and the space for him to romp around and burn off some of that puppy-like energy! Toby will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped before leaving our shelter.

Meet Austin! Austin is a 1yr old Pitbull mix who came to our shelter as a stray. He initially can be weary of new people but with patience and a few of his favorite treats, he will become your best friend in no time! Austin is a frequent participant in our playgroups and continues to gain confidence and engage more in play with his shelter friends. He has passed our behavioral assessment with no food or toy guarding issues and would do best in a home with an experienced handler, children 10+ and a confident leader dog who will continue to guide him in the right direction. Austin is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and ready to find his forever home!
