Frogs and toads may look alike, but there are key differences! 🐸 Frogs prefer water habitats, have round, bulging eyes, and pointed noses. Toads stay mostly on land, have football-shaped eyes, broader noses, and waterproof skin. Fun fact: neither gives you warts—just a myth! Knowing these traits helps you easily tell them apart.

Bringing a new fish home? 🐟 Don’t risk stress or illness by tossing it straight into the tank. Make sure the aquarium is large enough for your fish to thrive, check and balance the water’s pH and chemicals, and match the tank temperature to the bag water. Gradually introducing your fish ensures a healthy, happy start in its new home.

White’s tree frog, also known as the dumpy tree frog, is native to Indonesia, New Guinea and parts of Australia. It is larger than most frogs at about four to five inches; males are slightly smaller than females and possess a vocal sac. Adult frogs will have a fatty ridge above the eyes, which gives it a tired expression.

The best cages for box turtles are glass terrariums or plastic enclosures that will retain moisture without rotting; avoid wooden enclosures. Plastic storage bins also work, but make sure it has dark or opaque sides to minimize stress from outside activity.

When you bring home your Chilean rose hair tarantula, give it about a week to adjust and settle in before feeding it. Do not feed it at least five to seven days after molting as live prey can harm the tarantula.

If possible, give it a multivitamin for hamsters to make sure it receives the nutrition it needs. Your hamster should always be warm, never cold. If you touch its nose and it is cold, it is probably sick. Try to find a warmer place. A wet tail or discharge around the eyes can be a sign of infection. Also, keep a note of your hamster’s energy level; if it hides all the time and refuses to eat, it might be ill.

A 10 to 20-gallon terrarium can house one to two leopard geckos from hatchling to adult size. Larger tanks can cause the gecko to stray from its proper heating and hide box. The terrarium should be at least one foot tall.

Be sure to secure the screen top on the cage. Provide proper ventilation, and keep our cats and other unwanted visitors. A hide box filled with damp moss or vermiculite is needed so the gecko can shed its skin and lay eggs. Artificial plants can create a natural look.

Due to their size, Sulcata tortoises are best kept in an outdoor area. They can be kept there for most, or all, of the year. A desert-type set-up outdoors with a large grass area in the center and dirt around the perimeter is the recommended setting.

The tortoise will “patrol” the border, so leave it unplanted. The tortoises are constant grazers and will eat any plants in the enclosure. Fragile plants will likely be destroyed.

Bearded dragons enjoy heat. A basking site of about 95 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit is preferred. The basking site can be provided by a spotlight, such as a mercury v***r bulb, or a ceramic heat emitter positioned over a rock or branch at the end of the enclosure, about six to eight inches away from the basking bulb.

Keep the heat source to one side of the cage so the dragon can thermoregulate (move between a cooler side of the enclosure and the hotter side to control its body temperature). The cooler side can be in the low 70’s.
