A recent study published in Nature found harmful, antibiotic-resistant pathogens like Salmonella, Cronobacter, and E. coli in commercial raw cat foods, posing health risks to pets and humans, especially vulnerable groups. Many products lack warnings about the dangers of undercooked ingredients, according to author and researcher Dr. Laura Goodman, Ph.D. ’07, assistant professor in the Department of Public and Ecosystem Health and in The Baker Institute for Animal Health in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Bentley is an adorable 10 month old Pug. He was previously diagnosed with a liver shunt. This is a rare, but life threatening condition that some puppies can be born with but in most cases it can be corrected with surgery.

With the help of the community, including Sampson Fund, Friends of Falmouth Dogs and an anonymous donor, this puppy’s life has changed for the better. We sent Bentley to Dr. Adams at Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists for surgery.

Today, Bentley is a very happy and healthy puppy! He is no longer on medications and his lab results are so much better.

Thank you to all that helped bring Bentley a new and comfortable life.
