SIRE POWER... We have been quiet over the last year with a lack of events here in the Northeast and we’ve had limited time to devote to things like showing cattle. However, during this time we’ve done a lot of things to mix up our program and incorporate genetics that we feel our herd needs to continue its improvement. We decided it was time to become more practical and worry less about accolades and show potential, and more about real world traits that would excel in the BEEF industry.
The Belted Galloway Breed has continuously been viewed as one that is slow growing, moderate in mature weight, and quite frankly less than ideal for the conventional beef industry. We won’t argue those points, and some may say they are drawn to the breed due to it’s uniqueness or “speciality” appeal - however in our minds, we feel that our breed is more than that. With the right genetics, an open mindset and a willingness to take chances - this breed can produce elite animals. Not only Elite for the breed, but Elite in terms of beef cattle. These cattle will no doubt exceed in a show setting, but they will shine in a market that demands a return for it’s investment.
With that being said, we have incorporated a herd sire who we feel is our biggest step to making this happen. Chance, a 2300lb bull, is a 5 Year Old, 100% Fullblood Belted Galloway, raised completely on GRASS. He was never shown, he was never halter broke, and he’s stayed out of the spotlight until now… His pedigree features names of the classic powerhouse herds, and some from herds you’ve likely never heard of. He is a GAME CHANGER and one that truly checks all the boxes in terms of conformation, performance, pedigree and disposition. We feel this is the direction this breed needs to move in order to earn the respect it deserves in a competitive market. If you were to paint this bull black, he would fit in ANY beef herd in this country. It’s time to break the barrier of the belt and produce cattle for the modern market. Here at Pine View, we are doing just that.
