One of our favorite parts of what we do is watching the growth that happens in such a short time. Seeing a dog who may have started out unsure, overwhelmed, or hesitant begin to relax, explore, and enjoy themselves is incredibly rewarding. ❤️

This is part of what makes Free Spirit Hounds different. We don't believe every dog needs the same experience. We meet them where they are and give them the time, structure, and support they need to thrive.

We've been a little quiet this past week, and for good reason! 🐾

While posts have been a bit sparse, it's because I've been preparing for and attending a large dog show with a few of our girls. During weeks like this, Free Spirit Hounds continues to run smoothly, just at a slightly different pace while only one of us is on-site. Thankfully, the famous Uncle Matty has stepped in as an extra set of hands while I'm away!

Many of you know that, in addition to Free Spirit Hounds, we are preservation breeders of Japanese breeds. Showing our dogs is an important part of responsible breeding—it allows us to evaluate structure, temperament, and working ability while preserving the qualities that make these breeds so special.

We don't travel often between running the business and raising our family, so when we have the opportunity, we make the most of it. An added bonus is that our daughter gets to continue pursuing her passion as a Junior Handler, gaining valuable experience as she works toward her dream of one day competing at Westminster.

Thank you all for your patience while we're away, and thank you for trusting us with your dogs. We'll be back to our regular posts soon, and we can't wait to share highlights from the week! 🐕🏆💕

We've fallen a little behind on photos... 🤦‍♀️ but that just means we have even more adorable faces to share!

Over the last several days, we've welcomed some wonderful new friends, watched new friendships blossom, and enjoyed another week full of learning, enrichment, and plenty of tail wags.

Thank you for trusting us with your dogs. We never take that privilege for granted, and we feel incredibly fortunate to spend each day with such an amazing group. 🖤🐾

🐾 New "Trail of Manners" Class Begins Monday, July 20th at 7:00 PM! 🐾

Looking to improve your dog's manners, build better communication, and strengthen your relationship? Our Trail of Manners class is designed to help you create a calm, well-mannered companion through clear communication and practical, real-life training.

If you'd like to join us, please complete and submit our training intake form to reserve your spot.

📢 Please Note: The first class is PEOPLE ONLY (no dogs).

During this introductory session, we'll cover:
🐶 Your dog's individual goals and challenges
📚 Our training philosophy and approach
📝 The plan and progression for each class
🤝 Owner expectations, homework, and how to set both you and your dog up for success

Our goal isn't simply to prepare dogs for a test—it's to help owners build lasting communication, confidence, and reliable manners they can use every day.

At the conclusion of the course, dogs that are ready will have the opportunity to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluation, but earning the title is simply a bonus. Our primary focus is creating better-trained dogs and more knowledgeable, confident owners.
