There are times when it just doesn't pay to walk outside your door without wearing your aluminum foil hat firmly in place!

I decided to take Chief out to the East Berlin Rec Park for a walk and to do some work. Unfortunately it was one of those times Chief really had his head on backwards and wasn't terribly interested. I backed it off a bit and we worked the kinks out.

There are a couple of trails that run through the woods that surround the park. I decided to try one of them. We had only gone a short way when we were met by a man and a lovely Golden Retriever girl. The man kept calling for her to "leash up" which she completely ignored. She wanted to play with Chief but was also fearful. He was his usual polite self.

But here's where the STUPID comes in. The man got down on his knees and right into Chief's face. Seriously folks? This is a great way to give a plastic surgeon more work. Not every dog is as solid as Chief. Doing something like this can be considered a sign of aggression by the dog. I asked Chief to heel and we just walked away.

Seriously folks! Do not fling yourself in front of or on top of a dog. If the dog reacts badly it's always the dogs fault. The dog loses it's life and people are left clutching their pearls wondering why!

Think about what you are doing before you do it. You are not the ruler of the world. Try giving some consideration to other creatures for a change.

Rant over.

Chief abd i had a great time yesterday at Animal Rescue inc's "Trunk Or Treat." Besutiful weather. Met lots of nice folks and dogs. Handed out yummy dog treats. Chief was his usual relaxed self although he did want to bring a sweet GSD puppy girl home with us.

Last week's Basic Dog Obedience Training Class at the East Berlin Community Center was csncelled due to the monsoon that decided to dump on us. So last evening's class was the second session (should have been the third). . I wasn't sure what to expect but it appears that our dog handlers all did their homework. Such nice people! What a fun class!
Worked with each handler individually to smooth out the wrinkles as needed. Then we did work as a group. Fun!
Really looking forward to next week's session. There will be lights at the pavilion too. Hopefully it won't snow!

This will be a fun event!

It's way too peopley out there this evening. Took Chief out to the EB Rec Park for an evening walk and some Close Order Drill Work. We started out well but things came crashing down rather quckly. The reason? "Other Dogs"
Chief was a total rock star. The other owners could have held a Master Class in "What not to do around other dogs when out in public."

The first little darling was a small fuzzy very loud snarling wee beastie who was determined to eat Chief alive. Of course his mommy cuddled him and told him he was a good doggie and everything was OK. Whatever. We just walked on past. Loose lead. No muss. No fuss.

The second creature was a reincarnation of Cujo. I think it was a Shepherd mix. He and his owner crossed in front of us and were walking away. I asked Chief to sit and hold until the other dog was far enough in front of us that I felt comfortable. All of a sudden the dogs owner/handler/whatever did an about face and came walking straight tiward us. Said he better go the other way. The other dog was a total maniac. Lunging snarling barking. Leaping up and down. Owner was screaming his head off. I moved Chief as far away as I could. Ha was interested and would have engaged if the other dog had gotten loose. Fortunately that didn't happen. What did happen was that the dog pulled the owner flat on his face. I took this opportunity to quickly move Chief away from this idiot and his dog. Of course the owner is still yelling at the dog. Sit. Sit. Yeah. Right. Like that's gonna work. I heard the dog yelp in pain as we were making our getaway. The situation had escalated beyond the owners control. My first instinct was to tell the guy what I thought of him and his dog training skills. Nope. Not my issue. This was not the hill I chose to die on at that time. Sometimes you just need to think with your head and not fall victim to your emoti9ns.
Chief and I continued on our walk. We did a good bit of fun Drill work on the big open soccer field. It was great fun. My motto is to have fun and end on a positive note. And that's just what we did!

Today's weather forecast is HOT!!! If you really feel the need to go out tunning or walking. Fine. That's your choice. Knock yourself out. Show everybody how dedicated you are to fitness. Whatever. Use your head. Leave your poor dog at home. No way should you drag your furry friend out in this heat. Let them stay inside and enjoy the a/c. I know mine will be doing just that.
