Meet Layla 🐾 She had cruel and rough start in life. Found abandoned in a crate in Buffalo back in April ‘25 for an unknown amount of time without food or water, having been beaten and abused for what may have been her whole life so far 💔
The news got out that Layla had been found and the rescues were full. An angel came to her rescue and offered to take her home and keep her safe until she could find her a home. Unfortunately because Layla has been so broken by abusive human behaviour, she was unable to live inside the home with children or other dogs but her foster mom made her a safe and comfy home in her barn where she could be loved in her own space. This was only supposed to be a temporary arrangement for her as the barn is not heated and there was always hope that she would have found a forever home before the winter sets in. No one came through for either Layla or her foster Mom and winter is here. 💔
Layla came to us for 2 weeks hoping that some one-on-one time with Rob might help someone make the noble decision to adopt her. This is what he discovered…
💔The absuse she endured caused her serious anxiety and reactivity to strangers.
💔Being locked in a crate for so long caused her to become defensive and reactive about her crate and personal space
💔She eats and drinks very fast because she still believes it will be her last
💔She most likely had been kicked often and hit on the head as she is head shy and would react towards strangers feet and lower legs.
But….
❤️ She has learned to trust Rob and gets in and out her crate with a wagging tail because she knows trusts he wont leave her in there forever.
❤️ She has slowly met adult strangers and let Lois walk her kindly on a leash and give her treats
❤️She was excited to come inside a home and feel carpet on her feet, sniff a christmas tree, quickly found where the dog treat jar lives!
❤️ She has safely and kindly met other dogs through a fence although she has not been permitted to play with them at this time.
❤️ She gives Rob kisses and has made him her person just like she did with her foster momma.
❤️When she learns to love you, she loves deeply and loyaly.
❤️Her new name (by Rob) is Yoda wiggle butt 😂
Layla is looking for her forever person. She will be with us for another 5 days and then she will be returning to her foster mom at the end of the week. There is a strict criteria for her adoption;
-No children in the home at any time
-No other dogs or pets in the home
-Must be willing and committed to continue training her and this will require time
-Understand that she is a unique case, lots of time will be needed to gain her trust and love. She will not love you on her first meet and greet, but she will learn to as time passes.
-She is a strong girl, her forever person must beable to be strong, fit and healthy to continue her training.
-Experience is a must, she is not suitable as anyones first dog.
This really is Laylas last chance at finding a home, we know she just needs that one person to come forward who will love and understand her. If this is you, please reach out to us at R&R K9. Only serious enquires will be permitted a meet and greet by appointment basis only.
