Bernese Mountain Dogs originate from the canton of Bern, Switzerland. Originally a herdsman's dog, they are accustomed to bonding strongly with their people. The running joke is that other breeds have owners, but Berners have staff! They are well adapted to our Iowa climates, enjoy their outside romps, as well as their inside naps...and they do like to take naps. Their personality traits are loyal
ty, affection, and a wonderful combination with their striking looks and large-breed profile. These dogs are heavy built and strong, yet kind enough to have a gentle demeanor.
