Halloween can be downright spooky for our pets. Read below for some important tips on how to keep your pet safe.

Safety Concerns
👻 Poisoning - ingestion of raisins, Halloween candy containing chocolate or xylitol, etc.
👻 Intestinal Blockage - glow sticks, candies, decorations, or parts of pets’ costumes can get stuck in their stomach or intestines, leading to a blockage
👻 Injury - lit candles or jack-o-lanterns can burn
👻 Stress and Escape - noises, strangers in costumes, continuous door ringing, and opening and closing of the door can all stress your pet

Prevention
🎃 Don’t leave your pet unsupervised while they are in costume or with access to candy or decorations
🎃 Identify your pet with a microchip, collar, and ID tag
🎃 Keep lit candles, jack-o-lanterns, glow sticks, and decorations out of reach
🎃 Make sure costumes fit properly and have no loose pieces that can be easily chewed off
🎃 Provide a quiet, safe hiding place for pets to escape to

September is Animal Pain Awareness Month.

Animals suffer from pain just like people do. Acute pain is more obvious and distressing, but chronic pain can be subtle and masked as “getting old” or “slowing down.”

Remember: old age is not a disease, but pain is!

Here are some common signs of pain:

🐾Decreased activity
🐾Not going up or down stairs
🐾Reluctance to jump up onto surfaces (especially cats)
🐾Decreased appetite
