Waterbury Unleashed Dog Park

Waterbury Unleashed Dog Park Come join us at the Waterbury Unleashed Dog Park on River Road behind the Waterbury, Vermont Ice Center. Nice dogs only! Remember your dog’s tags!

There are many reasons a community builds an off-leash dog park. Here are a few of the benefits for Waterbury residents we foresee.
• A place for dogs & humans to socialize
• Promote responsible pet ownership and the enforcement of dog-control laws
• Provides a place for dogs to expel their energy safely, thus reducing barking and other behavior problems
• Provides seniors and disabled dog o

wners an accessible place to exercise their companions.
• Promotes public health and safety by isolating a single place where dogs can run free.
• Allows for realistic enforcement of otherwise difficult to monitor ordinances, i.e. licensing, vaccinations., etc.
• Tourism draw: People will travel to visit our dog park, bringing their dogs and dollars with them.
• Community building- Provides an opportunity to socialize with others who share the same interests.

PSA: There have been reports of dogs eating plastic toy parts, particularly ripped up balls, in the park lately. One doggie was rushed to BEVS after getting ill from eating parts of a ball. To keep our dogs safe and their owners relaxed please only bring "chewer friendly" balls and toys to the park. Everyone feels better when toy donations are durable and safe!

Once the snow melts the WUDP Board will provide a starter supply of durable balls.

Happy New Year everyone! A few notes on the dog park in winter:

1) Water is shut off until spring
2) There’s a new snow shovel near the exterior gate. If you're the first visitor after a snowfall please consider shoveling. We're all volunteer run...and anyone can be a volunteer!
3) There's sand located under the pavilion which can be spread on icy patches.
4) With fewer visitors to the park, please notify the Board at [email protected] if you see a problem.

Thank you to everyone who donated on Giving Tuesday AND to the volunteers who removed this large limb that fell during the snow storm earlier this week. Whether you pitched in with a chain saw or a credit card, our doggies are grateful!

It's Giving Tuesday! Just like public radio and TV, everyone can enjoy the park for free. But, if no one supports it, the park won’t be there for anyone. Fortunately, our costs are not high. This year we’ve spent around $500 on lawnmower repairs and other expenses.

Now we need to replenish our funds. Whatever amount you can contribute is greatly appreciated. Make your tax-deductible donation via this link (https://secure.qgiv.com/for/f-wudp). If you prefer to donate via check, they can be mailed to FORWARD, PO Box 244, Waterbury, VT 05677, and put WUDP in the memo line.

Thank you!
Waterbury Unleashed Dog Park Board, on behalf of Rio (Carla’s Dog), Guinness (Jane’s Dog), and Jubilee (Scott and Kelly’s Dog)

P.S. Thanks to the dog parents who submitted these photos of their photogenic pups enjoying the park, and the two exhausted dogs leaving the park!

Is anyone willing to be a p**p scoop hero? Two p**p rakes and one scoop pan need repairs.

*The two rake handles snapped. We're looking for someone to remove the bit of the handle that's still in the rake and reattach the handle.
*One scoop pan needs new hardware to fully attach the handle.

If you're the person for the job, shoot us an email at [email protected]. Replacing p**p scoops is expensive so we're hoping one of our dog park regulars can help!

Dear Park Friends,

Over the past 16 months the Park has been run by a handful of volunteers to keep it going. All have done a fantastic job with maintaining the park via operations, communications, and maintenance needs. Today, many of those volunteers have had life changes that have taken them in other directions. As of now we are in need of new volunteers to help out in several areas:

Operations/Communications/Maintenance

Please consider volunteering with us! Some of our most crucial areas needing volunteers are in Communications and Maintenance. We need volunteers who can help with creating signage and communications, assist with social media sites, help with coordinating maintenance needs for the park, participate in event planning and fundraising, or offer any special skill that will keep the Park running and in good operating condition.

Please reach out to us if you are interested, we are a very friendly, community spirited group that would love to talk to you. When we talk we can discuss specific areas where you can help and please know we respect any amount of time commitment you can offer. From one hour a week to four hours a month, whatever works for you!
