This is a need to know if you had planned on traveling to Mexico with your pet.

Four U.S. cases of New World screwworm have been confirmed in Texas: three calves and one dog. Because of this incursion, Mexico is now prohibiting many animals—including pet dogs—from traveling into the country from any U.S. state.

**UPDATE 04/30/26**

We are saddened to announce that The Golden Eagle passed away this afternoon. When she presented to us yesterday, she was cold, dehydrated, malnourished, and very weak. Our goal was to get her stable enough so that we could surgically repair her broken femur. She rallied a bit last night after medical treatment but then took a turn this morning that she was not able to bounce back from despite the care and medical treatments that she received today. We appreciate everyone’s concerns and healing vibes that were sent her way.

This was found at the base of Wolf Creek Pass and was brought in to us today by Colorado Parks and Wildlife - Durango. It has a broken femur that can hopefully be repaired. For now it has been given fluids, antibiotics, pain meds, food, and has been placed in an incubator to rest. We’ll reevaluate in the morning and see what the next step is.
