Here are some instructions on caping. I’ve had a number of questions about this topic this season. Hope this helps. If at all possible leave the face skin intact and your taxidermist can finish when he receives the animal.

When I was about 8 years old I sat in my granny and pawpaw’s living room, and I examined this mount and wondered with childlike thoughts of how this could be. Pawpaw walked in and said, “let me tell you about that buck!” It was his first deer and when he observed the mount and told me the story, there was this unforgettable joy in his voice as the memories came flooding back into his mind! It was one of those moments that people often overlook in life, just another old man telling a story. For me it was the start of a 30 year dream that I am now getting the opportunity to see turned into a reality! I want every animal I mount to bring back the joy and memories of those hunts in that way. I hope that comes through in every piece that I have the opportunity to work on!

Ever heard of a nictitating membrane? It’s a translucent eyelid that allows elk (and other game animals) to blink without obscuring their vision for even a second!🤯 That should make you feel pretty good about yourself if you’ve been lucky enough to take one of these beautiful animals! P.S.- details matter

Attention to detail is a must We remove each animals ear cartilage and replace it with a non shrinking heat molded fiber material. This ensures that each ear is specific to that particular animal, and that the shrinking cartilage want deteriorate down the road. It’s important to me that each time you look at your mount, your mind is flooded with the fond memories of the hunt for that animal. That’s why the smallest details matter, and shortcuts will never be taken!
