Cold weather safety precautions aren’t just for humans. Our four-legged friends need protection from frigid temperatures, too.

There is little doubt in anyone’s mind that the year 2020 is destined to stand out in history. In animal care circles however, 2020 has stood out as the year of the pet. As Americans sought companionship in a new era of social distancing and working from home, pet ownership rocketed to all time hi...

Dear Dunkirk Animal Hospital Clients,

Hopefully this letter finds all our patrons doing well and remaining safe while they navigate these demanding times. Based on when our clients have consistently scheduled appointments and contacted us, we are adjusting our availability in order to be as efficient as possible with our staffing.

Effective 4/28/2020

7 am until 8 pm

7 days a week

Our schedule will remain fluid as we make modifications in response to the directives and influences of changing COVID-19 regulations. We will open daily at these times, but we may be closing earlier if there is no client traffic. If you are planning on picking up prescriptions, preventatives, diets or other products please call to confirm that we will be open prior to your arrival. We appreciate your patience.

In order to protect the health of our staff members, please wear a mask when interacting with our team.

We will provide additional updates via Facebook, our website, and via email when available. We may need to continue to modify our schedule and/or procedures in the future. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
The Management of Dunkirk Animal Hospital

The Maryland State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners has issued guidelines this week instructing the veterinary clinics what services are considered “essential.” Many elective and routine procedures do not currently meet this definition. We are continuing to do our best to provide uninterrupted service for our clients and patients while instituting measures that follow the directives of The Maryland State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners regarding social distancing. Since we are required to limit the number of clients and patients at the hospital at any one time, we will be extending our hospital hours to allow for more appointments per day. Effective 4/4 we will now be open from 7am until 11pm. Our schedule remains fluid. We will open daily at these times, but we may be closing earlier if there is no client traffic. If you are planning on picking up prescriptions, preventatives, diets or other products please call to confirm that we will be open prior to your arrival. We appreciate your patience.

We are still open. Veterinary services are still considered essential and are exempt from the Stay At Home order. Our daily schedule is fluid and while we continue to be open at our regularly scheduled time we may close earlier in the afternoons. If you plan on picking up medications, food, or want to schedule an appointment please call to make sure that we are still here. Thank you.

We have now added a drive through window. When you pull your vehicle into our driveway, there is a sign asking you to stop. Please stop at the window, remain in your vehicle unless asked to exit and inform our staff why you are here. If possible, we will provide you with prescriptions, preventatives or diets directly via the window. Otherwise, you will be directed into the parking lot.
Cash and check are permissible but credit cards are preferred. If you use a credit card, a staff member will call you to receive payment over the telephone.
Please call ahead to request refills. A staff member will help you complete your transaction from your vehicle.
Our current schedule is very flexible. While we anticipate that we will continue to open daily at our normally posted times, due to the reduction in client traffic we may be closing earlier on some afternoons. If you are planning on picking up prescriptions, preventatives, diets or other products please call to confirm that we will be open prior to your arrival. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
We thank you all for your patience and support as we endeavor to safeguard the health and safety of our patients, clients, and staff. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

We are happy to report a positive response to our recent implementation of a valet style service to more safely serve our clients and patients. However, the public health guidelines for how to protect the health and well being of our staff and clients while providing uninterrupted veterinary care continue to evolve daily. Based on the current recommendations from the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association,Dunkirk Animal Hospital will transition from a valet style service to a patient drop off service. Following public health guidelines, including the principle of social distancing, only Dunkirk
Animal Hospital personnel will be permitted to enter the hospital. Clients will remain in their vehicles. This drop off policy includes all appointments and emergencies. This protocol is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice.

03/18/2020

Dunkirk Animal Hospital will be implementing the following procedures: Any client with a scheduled appointment who is showing signs of illness that may be associated with COVID-19 should remain at home and reschedule the appointment for a later date.
Any client who is showing signs of illness and whose pet requires emergency care should ask a trusted friend or relative to transport their pet to our clinic for care.
All clients will be asked to remain in their car upon arrival and call to check in for their appointment.
Patients and 1 client will be brought in by staff while all others wait in their car.
Any necessary communications with clients will be made by phone with the doctor or staff.
Please understand that this will likely extend wait times and that we will see each patients as promptly as possible.
We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these ever-changing circumstances together. We hope to provide you and your family with the care you expect and deserve while respecting the guidelines that have been set to limit exposure and spread of the COVID-19 virus.
