🐾 **Poison Awareness Month: Protect Your Pets** 🐾
As we celebrate **Poison Awareness Month**, it's a great time to remind pet owners of common household items and substances that can be deadly to your furry friends. Keep these hazards in mind:
🚫 Alcohol– Even small amounts can cause severe issues, including vomiting, tremors, and seizures.
🚫 Antifreeze– Often sweet-tasting but highly toxic, causing kidney failure.
🚫 Blue-Green Algae – Found in stagnant water, it can cause poisoning and death.
🚫 Green Tomatoes – Unripe tomatoes and the leaves of tomato plants contain solanine, which is toxic to pets.
🚫 Household Cleaners– Keep all cleaning supplies out of reach to avoid gastrointestinal upset, burns, and poisoning.
🚫 Certain Plants – Plants like lilies (especially toxic to cats), azaleas, and poinsettias can be toxic to pets.
🚫 Ma*****na & Illicit Drugs – Can cause disorientation, seizures, and respiratory issues.
🚫 Mushrooms – Some wild mushrooms are poisonous and can lead to organ failure.
🚫 Rock Salt – Harmful if ingested, causing irritation and digestive issues.
🚫 Sago Palm – A popular ornamental plant that is highly toxic to pets, especially dogs.
🚫 Rodenticides – Poisoning can occur if pets ingest even a small amount.
🚫 Snail & Slug Bait – Contains toxins that can be deadly.
🚫 Certain Medications – Human medications, including pain relievers, can be fatal to pets.
🚫 Xylitol – This sugar substitute is highly toxic, especially to dogs, causing liver failure.
