Three Blind Mice and darn!socks cat toys are hand crafted by Melissa Boyle whose craftiness comes by way of 10 summers as the “craft lady” at a Lake Michigan summer camp. Melissa has now settled in Duluth on the shores of Lake Superior where she brings joy to felines far and wide and keeps countless old holey socks out of the landfill. Making cat toys out of old socks is not quite what she planned

to do with an expensive degree in Environmental Studies. Yet feline fans across the country are proof that cats want an alternative to the Made in China toys sold at big box stores. When not making mice making, Melissa enjoys cooking, gardening, chicken watching, and teaching her feline assistants Aven and Itty Bitty to do the laundry instead of just testing the cat toys!

March 30, 2026 and the backyard still has huge piles of snow and there is more to come this week. The Mouse Factory will not be moving outside anytime soon.
