Medical Case Monday!

Bubba is a 14 week old puppy that has had his share of troubles, but remains bright and happy despite what this picture may indicate!

He and his litter mates were orphaned when they were around a week old, and - as they grew - it was discovered that they likely had a congenital issue called Cerebellar Hypoplasia. Cerebellar Hypoplasia means the cerebellum (the part of the brain responsible for balance and motor skills) doesn't develop. Animals affected lack fine motor control and have varying degrees of shakiness and wobbling when they walk. This condition can be caused by a viral infection from their mother before the puppies are born. Other than those symptoms, these puppies are otherwise normal playful pups!

Bubba also had a neck injury, likely from taking a tumble when he was little, which has resulted in him having to wear a neck brace for about six weeks to help to heal. He is doing better, and seems much more comfortable with his neck brace. Though he and his brother started out life without much luck, they have been adopted by their foster family and have two human brothers to grow up with!
