The dust has settled and we are home from Vernon Tx and a long week at the SWCDA futurity, maturity, and finals. We are extremely proud of all the dogs and were fortunately able to bring home some hardware.
Firstly and most importantly, Logan and Spicy are the youth champions of the finals! They completed full scores both days in fast fashion. Very minimal coaching the first day and zero coaching the second day from me. I’m so proud of Logan’s confidence and determination to work Spicy and look forward to their future together.
As for the rest of the crew, Stella (owned by Cole and Kayla Emmons Fincher) is the Swcda Nursery champion and reserve dog of the year! She also was 2nd in the first go round of the ranch.
Rain (owned by Misty Erwin) pulled some go round checks and finished 4th in the nursery.

Stella at Diamond S Rodear Trial

We started off the fall season with a bang going to the Diamond S Rodear Cattledog Trial in Sulphur Springs. 6 dogs made the trip and checks were won by all 6!!!! Spicy was the big winner in the open with a 1st place Saturday and 3rd place Sunday making her the overall Average Champion. Stella (at her first trial since last falls futurity) was lights out taking 2nd on Saturday, behind her littermate sister Annie, and was 1st on Sunday making her the overall Ranch Average Champion.
Gus finished 2nd in the open on Saturday and 4th on Sunday. Rain raked in two 3rd place finishes in the ranch. Annie as mentioned won the ranch Saturday. And June with a solid weekend was 2nd in the ranch on Sunday.
So happy with all these dogs and thank you to several of their owners for trusting me with them. Looking forward to the rest of the season!

I love what I do and this dog is a perfect example of why. Rain, owned by Misty Erwin, most recently won the ranch class at the 3 Shy Cattledog Trial (her 3rd trial). She was 2nd in the nursery class back in December at the No Frills Newyears Trail (her 2nd competition). And her first outing was last fall at the Southwest Cattledog Association futurity where she made the championship round and finished in 5th place. An unruly ball of black fur that came to my clinic last spring has manifested into a great friendship with Misty and one hell of a dog with Rain!

I love this dog! Big, powerful, smooth, and stylish. Gus penned 140 head of these fresh yearlings by himself Monday, all while getting to show off for the camera. Gus has proven himself both in the trial competitions, winning several Open events already, as well as being able to handle all classes of livestock in the ranch world. Gus is one of the most confident dogs I have ever seen. At 4 years old, his oldest pups are following in his footsteps, and more young prospects on the way. He is standing to approved outside females.
