Today while perusing the internet, I saw someone I know personally who has no credentials as a trainer, nutritionist or vet trying to start up a side hustle regarding nutrition advice and “sound training”. It reminded me that this industry is super unregulated.

Please consult your veterinarian or a board certified nutritionist for diet related advice. Feeding raw, as this individual does requires a balanced mineral/vitamin balancer and routine bloodwork. There are also health risks to others in the home with raw diets. So care is definitely needed. Be sure to ask for qualifications from anyone selling training advice as well. If those qualifications or methods do not align with the AVSAB standards, seek out someone else!

This Is a great video helping to show that simply by breaking things down for the dog, we can avoid corrections altogether. Errorless learning!

Focusing on compliance takes us out of the teacher role. We should always be focusing on how to help dogs through the learning process! That’s training!

Just had a phone consult with a prominent off leash training facility and they said that e collars are not a “quick fix” and then said reliable off leash recalls can only be taught with an e collar due to the fixed time frame of training available. This is false!

Remember folks… the dog training industry is unregulated in the U.S… be sure to ask for credentials! Your trainer should always be maintaining their certifications and knowledge base.

I’ve heard some say that credentials don’t mean the trainer is worth their salt. Yes, credentials alone may not prove that someone can train. However, it shows that the individual is committed to furthering their knowledge and holds themselves m accountable to a standard. Continuing education is a very important part of dog training!
