Downs & Smith Center Veterinary Clinic

Downs & Smith Center Veterinary Clinic The Downs/Smith Center Veterinary Clinics are mixed animal practices. Here for your large and small

The Downs/Smith Center Veterinary Clinics are a mixed animal practice with heavy emphasis on food animal veterinary care. We are a two clinic practice that has been well established in the communities, but has young leadership. The practice is split approximately 70% large animal and 30% small animal. The large animal practice is primarily cow/calf with some backgrounding and feedlot producers. We

currently have three veterinarians that will be willing to mentor new graduates. Support staff consists of three veterinary assistants, receptionist, kennel help, and a business manager. We pride ourselves on our friendly environment and our ability to provide quality care at reasonable rates. We believe in treating others as we would want to be treated and this is an important part of our business model. Our community, employees, clients and patients are all important at the Downs/Smith Center Veterinary Clinics. We strive to provide a professional, relaxed work environment where people know you by name and depend on the same friendly faces taking care of their needs.

Due to the weather and loss of power we will be closed today. Stay safe.

A Blizzard Warning and winter weather advisories has been issued for much of Central and Northern Kansas Wed morning due to expected very strong northwest winds and moderate to heavy snow, which will greatly reduce visibility. This includes portions of I-70 where travel impacts are likely.

Both locations will be closed until at least 10 am Monday, January 6th. We will check out the road conditions at 9 am to determine if road conditions are safe enough for employees to safely arrive at the clinics.

On this season of Thanksgiving 🍁 we want to send a big thank you and congratulations to Dillon! We have been lucky to have him as part of the clinic for several years. He has the very neat opportunity to help Rick Rice with transitioning to slowing down and taking over caring for his cows. While he won’t be at the clinic everyday anymore we are SO glad he is married in so we will still be keeping him in our clinic family! We are sad to not have you as an employee, but excited to have you as a client! Congratulation on a unique opportunity that we know has been a long term goal.

🐾We have had several calls concerning parvo in the Smith Center area. It is a good idea to check your dog's vaccination status as there have been several confirmed cases. Due to the virus being active in the community we are sharing some tips how to protect your dog and other's canine pals.

1. Making sure your pet's vaccinations are current. πŸ’‰
2. Schedule an appointment if you need updated vaccinations. πŸ“†
3. Limit social outings (stores, parks, friend's houses) with your pet, even fully vaccinated dogs are at risk for mild infections). 🏑
4. If you are notified your pet has been around another pet with parvo, contact us right away for a parvo specific booster - even if they are current on normal vaccinations. πŸ’‰
5. Let us know if your pet is ill ... sooner rather than later. πŸ“ž
6. If you have a sick pet and need an appt please keep your pet in your vehicle. Do not unload it at the clinic. We will come out to your vehicle. πŸš—

If you are concerned our phones aren't working, we can assure you they are. They are just that busy. Please bear with us for the next several weeks. Every cow in the country goes to grass around May 1st. So from now until the first couple weeks of May we are swamped in person and on the phones trying to help you and your neighbors. The phones have been transferred to Sam's cell so that you can now leave a message instead of getting a busy signal. We promise we will call you back if you LEAVE A MESSAGE. Messages will be returned in the order they are left and will be called by the end of business day. We are doing our best, and want to express our gratitude for your business, your patients, and our employees. Thank you all for getting through these next four weeks with us.

Additionally, the stomach bug has hit some of our employees' family. So please be prepared that we may have varied business hours at the Smith Center clinic as we will have to lock the doors occasionally to continue sending staff to country appts that have already been schedule. We will be available this afternoon as normal from 1-5.
