Hunters, it’s almost here—the archery-only deer season and fall turkey season kick off this Saturday, Sept. 27!

Season Dates�:
🦌 Archery Deer: Sept. 27–Oct. 24 & Oct. 27–Nov. 7�
🦃 Archery Turkey: Sept. 27–Oct. 24 & Oct. 27–Nov. 7�
🦃 Shotgun/Archery Turkey: Oct. 11–24

Turkey season is open in all counties except Crockett, Dyer, Giles, Haywood, Lake, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Lincoln, Shelby, Tipton, and Wayne.

With 100+ WMAs and refuges open across the state—and plenty of private land opportunities (with landowner permission)—this fall is packed with hunting adventures.

🍂🐴 The first day of fall is here! 🍁 There’s nothing quite like exploring the trails on horseback while the leaves turn to gold, red, and orange all around you. Looking back at last year’s rides has us excited for crisp mornings, cozy evenings, and all the beauty this season brings.

We had such a great time sharing our animals with the DeKalb County students! We were told many times that we were a favorite station of the day and we really felt the love and curiosity! 🥰

We are all set up at Herndon Farms to teach DeKalb County third graders about equines! Maverick is representing the unique history and features of appaloosa horses and Jack is demonstrating the loving personality and strong work ethic of donkeys 🐴🫏

Today was a FULL day of helping clients celebrate a 40th year anniversary, trail rides, multiple photo sessions, and running around getting things set up for the lodge! Thankful for the pop-up showers today! Hopefully our field will start growing soon! 🥰 I’ll spend the night editing photos and will be up early to take Maverick and Jack into town to teach some elementary students about horses and donkeys!

Big things happening on the farm today! I had the great privilege of being mentored by my neighbor to use his large tractor for the seed drill! We are planting fescue, orchard, white clover, and rye grass for our cool season mix this year 🌾 Like any good farmer, I drilled until the sun went down and we will be back at it tomorrow!

🌅✨ Yesterday morning we had the most beautiful sunrise trail ride with Tina and her horse, Tate! The golden light, the quiet of the valley, and the steady rhythm of hooves made it such a peaceful start to the day. 🌿🐎 
 
We love welcoming haul-in riders and their horses to share these special trails with us. Thank you, Tina & Tate, for bringing such great energy to the ride! 💛

Farming is full of joy, but also full of hard responsibilities. This past week, I faced one of the most difficult moments I’ve ever had on the farm. A dog entered our property and began killing our chickens. As a farmer, I am responsible for the safety and wellbeing of every animal in my care, and I had to make a heartbreaking decision to protect them. 
 
I want to be clear: I love animals. My farm is built on that love. This situation was not taken lightly—it was tragic and deeply upsetting for me as well. 
 
I know many of you are hurting or angry hearing about this, and I understand. Please also understand the reality of farm life: chickens, horses, and livestock depend on us to keep them safe, just as our pets depend on us at home. Even the sweetest dogs can cause serious harm if not properly contained, which is why keeping pets secured is so important. 
 
I share this not to cause further upset, but to be transparent. I will continue to care for all the animals on this farm with compassion and responsibility. Thank you to those who have shown understanding, and to fellow farmers who know the difficult choices we sometimes face.
