Left: 14 months on Apoquel ($2,576 spent)
Right: 4 weeks on collagen drops ($19.99 spent)
I'm posting this because I WISH someone had shown me this before I put my boy through 14 months of:
Pills twice a day
Constant vet visits
4 ear infections
2 skin infections
Excessive thirst and peeing
Still scratching at night
The Apoquel worked for maybe 2 months. Then it just... stopped. But my vet kept saying "let's increase the dose" and I trusted her.
Meanwhile his immune system was being suppressed, he was getting infection after infection, and I was paying $180/month for a drug that wasn't even working anymore.
Someone on here (bless you whoever you are) commented on one of my desperate posts about collagen drops that actually rebuild the skin barrier instead of just masking symptoms.
I was skeptical. I mean, how could a $20 supplement work better than a $180 prescription?
But look at his paws. LEFT vs RIGHT. Same dog. 4 weeks apart.
No more:
Bloody paws from licking ✅
Red, inflamed belly ✅
2am scratch sessions ✅
Ear infections ✅
$180/month bills ✅
If you're spending hundreds on Apoquel and it's not working anymore, PLEASE try fixing the actual problem (damaged skin barrier) instead of just blocking the itch signal.
Your dog—and your wallet—will thank you.

Left: 12 months on Apoquel ($2,160 spent)
Right: 6 weeks on collagen drops ($19.99 spent)
I'm posting this because I WISH someone had shown me this before I put my Frenchie through 12 months of:
Pills twice a day
Paws so inflamed he walked like he was on hot coals
Constant licking echoing through the house at night
Red, swollen paw pads that looked painful to touch
Him refusing to go on walks because stepping hurt
Vet bills every month for infected paws
The Apoquel worked for maybe 6 weeks. Then the paw licking got WORSE than before we started. But my vet kept saying "Frenchies just have allergies, let's increase the dose" and I trusted her.
Meanwhile his immune system was being suppressed, his paws kept getting yeast infections between the toes (that smell!), and I was paying $180/month for a drug that was making him MORE prone to the infections making his life miserable.
Someone in a French Bulldog group (bless you whoever you are) posted about collagen drops that actually rebuild the paw barrier instead of just suppressing immunity while infections take over.
I was skeptical. I mean, how could a $20 supplement work better than $180 Apoquel that three different vets said was necessary for the breed?
But look at his paws. LEFT vs RIGHT. Same dog. 6 weeks apart.
No more:
✅ Bright red, swollen paw pads
✅ Walking like he's on hot coals
✅ All-night licking sessions
✅ Yeast infections between toes
✅ $180/month enabling infections
If you're spending hundreds on Apoquel and your Frenchie's paws are still inflamed, PLEASE try fixing the actual problem (damaged paw barrier + suppressed immunity) instead of just blocking signals while infections thrive.
Your dog—and your wallet—will thank you.

My vet suggested we "consider quality of life."
Top: 16 months on Apoquel ($2,880 spent)
Bottom: 8 weeks on collagen drops ($39.98 spent)
That's code for euthanasia.
She was only 4 years old. But her skin was so bad - completely bald across her entire belly and sides - that my vet started the "quality of life" conversation.
"Some Westies just have really severe skin allergies," he said. "If the Apoquel isn't controlling it after this long, and she's getting constant infections, we might need to talk about whether it's fair to keep trying."
I left that appointment sobbing in my car.
$180/month for Apoquel. Weekly $95 vet visits for skin infections. Medicated baths three times a week. Antibiotics. Antifungals. Steroid creams.
Nothing worked. She just kept getting WORSE. More bald. More infected. More miserable.
But she was FOUR. She still played with her toys. Still got excited for walks. Still wagged her tail when I came home.
I wasn't ready to give up.
Someone in a Westie Facebook group saw my desperate post and sent me a private message: "PLEASE try these collagen drops before you do anything else. My Westie looked exactly like yours. Completely bald belly. Eight weeks later, full coat."
I ordered them that night. $19.99. What did I have to lose?
Week 3: The infections stopped.
Week 5: Peach fuzz started growing.
Week 8: Look at her belly now. FULL WHITE FUR.
My vet cried when he saw her. Actually cried. "In 20 years I've never seen a Westie recover from skin this bad."
If your vet is starting the "quality of life" conversation about skin allergies, PLEASE try fixing the actual problem (damaged skin barrier + suppressed immunity) before you give up.
Your Westie deserves a chance to heal.

Left: 16 months on Apoquel ($2,880 spent)
Right: 10 weeks on collagen drops ($19.99 spent)
I'm posting this because I WISH someone had shown me this before I put my little dog through 16 months of:
Pills twice a day for a small dog
His coat getting thinner and more patchy every month
Hair loss all over his body and legs
His coat looking dull and lifeless instead of shiny
Vet saying "small dogs just have coat issues as they age"
Watching him look older and sicker while the coat kept deteriorating
The Apoquel was supposed to help the allergies causing the coat problems. It worked for maybe 4 weeks. Then his coat got WORSE - thinner, duller, more patchy. But my vet kept saying "let's stay on it, sometimes it takes longer in small dogs" and I trusted her.
Meanwhile his immune system was being suppressed, his coat kept deteriorating, and I was paying $180/month for a drug that was making him look 10 years older than he is.
Someone in a small dog Facebook group (bless you whoever you are) posted a similar photo and told me about collagen drops that actually rebuild healthy coat from the inside instead of just suppressing immunity while the coat dies.
I was skeptical. I mean, look at the left photo - how could anything bring back THAT much coat?
But look at him now. LEFT vs RIGHT. Same dog. 10 weeks apart.
No more:
✅ Thin patchy coat all over body
✅ Dull lifeless hair
✅ Looking 10 years older
✅ Progressive coat deterioration
✅ $180/month aging my dog
If you're spending hundreds on Apoquel and your dog's coat is getting thinner and duller, PLEASE try fixing the actual problem (damaged follicles + suppressed immunity preventing regrowth) instead of just blocking signals while your dog's coat dies.
Your dog—and your wallet—will thank you.

Right: 6 weeks on collagen drops ($19.99 spent)
I'm posting this because I WISH someone had shown me this before I put my Frenchie through 12 months of:
Pills twice a day
Ear infections CONSTANTLY (those big bat ears get infected so easily)
$95 vet visits every 2-3 weeks
Him shaking his head so hard he got hematomas
That awful smell from his ears filling the room
Vet saying "Frenchies just have ear problems"
The Apoquel was supposed to help. It worked for maybe 4 weeks. Then the ear infections got WORSE and more frequent. But my vet kept saying "Frenchies are prone to this, let's try stronger antibiotics" and I trusted her.
Meanwhile his immune system was being suppressed, his large bat ears kept getting infected, and I was paying $180/month for a drug that was making his breed-specific problem WORSE.
Someone in a French Bulldog group (bless you whoever you are) told me about collagen drops that actually rebuild the ear barrier instead of just suppressing immunity while those big ears trap infections.
I was skeptical. I mean, how could a $20 supplement work better than $180 Apoquel + constant antibiotics?
But look at his ear. LEFT vs RIGHT. Same dog. 6 weeks apart.
No more:
✅ Constant ear infections
✅ Head shaking and hematomas
✅ $95 vet visits every 2-3 weeks
✅ Awful smell from ears
✅ $180/month making it worse
If you're spending hundreds on Apoquel and your Frenchie's big ears keep getting infected, PLEASE try fixing the actual problem (damaged ear barrier + suppressed immunity) instead of just accepting that "Frenchies have ear problems."
Your dog—and your wallet—will thank you.
