Critter Feature of the day! Ghost (Lobsters) Crayfish are an interesting addition to a tank with fast swimming, top dwelling fish like Denison barbs, large parrot fish and silver dollars. They like caves and places to hide but venture around the aquarium acting like they own the joint. We have three available! And for tanks with small fish we have dwarf orange and dwarf blue lobsters!!

We just had a decent Re-stock of Dr. Bassleer from the warehouse! We are still waiting on the next shipment from Germany to get everything in we need. So if we don’t have something you want we are still trying to get it. The big shipment from Germany has been waiting to get shipped because of the 25% tariffs on Europe. Just FYI, that’s more than our profit so we cannot absorb that. It’s not going to work. We are hoping they stop the tariffs soon. So hang in there!

People ask me all the time how we are doing and when I tell them the tariffs are affecting us negatively, some get confused. People still think the other country pays for the tariffs but they don’t! American business owners and consumers are paying allllll those tarrifs! I know, I’m paying them! I have proof! It’s a tax on Americans and it’s only going to get worse with price increases in the near future. I understand we want made in America and that’s great, so do I but having products and foods from other countries too is what gives us variety. It only helps America, it’s not hurting it. ❤️ I know because it creates jobs and cool ones at that, like Aquarium Fish Shops that thrive on animals and products from other countrues. We cannot get everything here in the states.

We are a Veteran run company, my husband served over 20 years of proud dedicated service. We love America but we also appreciate other countries as well and our American Dream to operate a business here in the states. Please, I don’t want to get political. Just know it’s hard on small businesses and our dear employees who rely on their job by the sales we make. It’s their livelihood, as Americans. So please, support the small guys and know we are doing our best to absorb these extra costs.

My favorite memory of the great Dr. Paul Loiselle besides talking about cats. April 2018 at the New Jersey Aquarium Society Meeting, Dr. Paul Loiselle was sorting all these Lake Kivu African fish from Oliver Lucanus’s import I brought to him in buckets. Peter George needed members like me to care for this import and I had so many crammed in a 220 gallon tank at my house. I believe this was the first expedition to that Lake ever but Peter George can elaborate. Anyway the fish were all mixed up and he was just sitting there identifying them like they were color coded. It was amazing to watch him in action. I remember thinking that some people in that room had no clue they were in the presence of greatness. What a day! ❤️ RIP my friend!

I just received an email (attached below) from our primary distributor, through whom we purchase most of the goods for our business. They have announced that due to the upcoming tariffs taking effect on April 11th, 2025, prices will be increasing. This change will impact all aquarium and small animal products, including food and live fish!

Unfortunately, we will not be able to absorb these increased costs due to already low margins, which means that the prices of goods in our business will also rise. We want to be transparent with our customers and help you understand the reason behind these changes. We truly appreciate your continued support and understanding during this time. Here is an excerpt from the email:

“Good morning, everyone, I hope everyone is doing well.

I wanted to give everyone a head’s up on what to expect with the NEW tariffs that were put into place overnight.

Unless something drastically changes in the next 7-10 days, you will see price increases that will go into effect starting on Friday, April 11th, 2025. As you probably know, the tariff percentage is based on country of origin. In addition, the tariffs are applied based on the “sum of its parts,” or percentage of origin, as to what tariffs have been levied. As it stands today, there will be a significant increase on most products from China, Asia, and Europe. This impacts most of the products sold today in our industry. Some may not realize it, but most of the glass today comes from China and is only assembled in the United States.

Why am I sharing this with you, simply said, I want to put everyone on notice and be able to plan. This is going to have a major impact on our industry. Many of the manufactures today in the United States do very little production in the States, most bring in from across the water(s). If I can suggest ordering what is absolutely needed before the price increase takes effect. I can only suggest this and wanted to make sure you all are “in the know” and what to expect.

I wish I could give more notice but we get many shipments every 7-10 days from manufactures so the price increase will be implemented almost immediately, or by Friday, April 11th.

This is very much a fluid situation, and we hope some stability is ironed out before too much change occurs and we see a continual flow of products where price increases are implemented. Of course, should things change, either forward or backwards, we will change accordingly.
