Update:
The little bantam rooster had a pellet from a BB gun lodged in his wattle. 😫😡

It had been there long enough to heal up and scar over. I got it out, which he did NOT appreciate. I will be doing wound care on him until it heals back up. At this time I do not have plans to go out of my way to find out where he came from, because obviously he was not being cared for.

Well, this is a whole brand new experience. I've had chickens for years. I've hatched chickens, I've bought chickens. I've had people give me chickens they couldn't care for anymore. I've never had a chicken just ✨️show up✨️ .. until today.

The back yard desperately needed to be mowed. So I decided to round up the flock and get that done. When I went out, I discovered there was one more chicken there than I was expecting. Where did he come from? How did he get here? Your guess is as good as mine!

First things first, I started rounding up the chickens who are supposed to be here, with the help of some treats. Eventually I got them all in. Next I tried to get ahold of my tiny visitor.

This little dude is fast. You might think catching such a smol chimken would not be a challenge. This would be incorrect. I did try luring him with treats, but he was suspicious of my motives. 😅 I quickly realized a net would be necessary. Even with the net, I had several narrow misses before I actually got my grubby little hands on him. 😜

Once he was caught, he was fairly calm. He didn't bite, scream, or fight. I trimmed his little spurs because despite being tiny they were wicked sharp. I looked him over for any signs of parasites or illness. No critters, or obvious injuries/infections. I did place him in a separated area just in case. I plan to check around and see if he's missing from a neighbor's flock. He's definitely a handsome little gentleman.

NPIP AI/PT clean GA-2324
Are your incubators feeling abandoned, vacant, in need of attention?

I can help.
Message me about
🧟‍♂️Zombie Capsules🧟‍♀️ and
🧛‍♂️Crypt Walker Coffins.⚰️

Zombies are s*x linked at hatch.
The rooster is tall, dark, and handsome, all black as an Ayam Cemani should be. His dark skin and comb are passed down to his daughters.

The hen is a Leghorn. Egg laying powerhouse. Her sons take after her with red combs and yellow legs. Both hens and roosters have light plumage with darker spots and speckles.

Crypt Walkers are mysterious and magical. Are they boys? Are they girls? You will have to wait, but once they lay, you're likely to get green, blue, or tinted eggs! Their daddy is also Ayam Cemani, momma hens are sweet blue & green layers.

Don't have an incubator? Message me for options. 🙂

Last week, we did something that's a pretty big deal. We got tested for NPIP participation! This is important because it certifies that our flock tested negative for AI and PT, plus it allows us to legally ship eggs or transport birds across state lines. It also means we can participate in poultry shows without on-site testing, simply by showing our NPIP paperwork.

This weekend our very first Polish babies hatched! They have a chance to be Frizzle because mama Pepper is a Frizzle. So far, they're definitely CUTE, other traits remain to be seen. I'm pleased with the fertility of the Polish eggs, and looking forward to more chicks hatching soon. 😍

Also these babies are UFD, message with any questions.

It was quite a day for the quail.

45 new babies came out of the incubators and went into the brooder. I left the last few eggs in to see if we had any late hatches, but I suspect everyone is done hatching. ☺️

I also checked my recently matured group for males. I started getting a few eggs this week, and last night the males were crowing literally ALL night long. I found 3 "extra" males and moved them out of the breeding groups. This is best for the hens so they aren't getting chased by multiple roosters. It's also better for the roosters, as they will injure each other fighting over the hens. 😬🙃

It seems like this made the hens very happy because I got 14 eggs today! 😁

West Georgia is getting warmer. Hiram is hopping, Douglasville is in full bloom.
Spring has sprung. Love is in the air, and so is pollen! The bees are visiting every spring flower they can find. The brooders are overflowing with cuteness. Please message for more info!

UFD we have
Zombies (Ayam Cemani/Leghorn) they're not going to steal your brains, but they might capture your heart. 😍

Fibro-eggers- dark skin and feathers- colorful egg laying potential.

Today we said goodbye to a very special girl.

Chippy was the very last hen left from our very first flock. She would have been 12 years old this summer, which in chicken terms is ancient.

She gave us beautiful pale green eggs right up until the end. The last couple days she had been slowing down and not really eating much. I tried giving her some wet food by hand, and setting a special dish so she could eat by herself, but she barely touched it. She just wanted to sit quietly in the coop. She earned the choice to spend her final moments how she wanted to. She didn't seem to be in pain or suffering, but I knew. I could tell she knew. Her time was coming.

I still cried when I found her lying in the coop. She was the best hen ever, and I'm so thankful I had the privilege to have her in my flock.

Rest In Peace Chippy
