Well, this is a whole brand new experience. I've had chickens for years. I've hatched chickens, I've bought chickens. I've had people give me chickens they couldn't care for anymore. I've never had a chicken just ✨️show up✨️ .. until today.
The back yard desperately needed to be mowed. So I decided to round up the flock and get that done. When I went out, I discovered there was one more chicken there than I was expecting. Where did he come from? How did he get here? Your guess is as good as mine!
First things first, I started rounding up the chickens who are supposed to be here, with the help of some treats. Eventually I got them all in. Next I tried to get ahold of my tiny visitor.
This little dude is fast. You might think catching such a smol chimken would not be a challenge. This would be incorrect. I did try luring him with treats, but he was suspicious of my motives. 😅 I quickly realized a net would be necessary. Even with the net, I had several narrow misses before I actually got my grubby little hands on him. 😜
Once he was caught, he was fairly calm. He didn't bite, scream, or fight. I trimmed his little spurs because despite being tiny they were wicked sharp. I looked him over for any signs of parasites or illness. No critters, or obvious injuries/infections. I did place him in a separated area just in case. I plan to check around and see if he's missing from a neighbor's flock. He's definitely a handsome little gentleman.
