Meet Rita, a gorgeous 4-year-old girl with a sleek black coat and a heart of pure gold! This sweet girl strikes the perfect balance between playful energy and absolute devotion; she loves exploring and staying active, but she’s just as quick to settle down for quiet snuggles and companionable silence. Rita is famously known around the shelter as our resident "hugging queen" because she literally loves to wrap you in a hug and curl up as close as possible with the people she trusts. Four months ago, when the Colquitt Police Department was closing its pound, ARA stepped up to rescue four dogs who needed a second chance—and Rita was one of them. She has been waiting patiently ever since, and this lively, loyal girl is so ready to bring her endless affection and sweet personality to a forever family who will adore her. Look at the treasure Mrs. Melba brought us that she found at our local Piggly Wiggly here in Donalsonville. They are 4/$1! Stevie asks if you could please spare $1 and pick some up for her and her fellow rescue kitties, she would be very happy!

Did you know we have a Doggie Day Out program? It's kind of like when you go to the library, and check out a book! Except you're checking out a DOG!

All the fun of a dog but no commitment. Take a dog for the day, and let her relax at home, enjoy an ice cream from Dairy Queen, go for a long walk with you...

Many of our dogs have been with us so long that they think this is their home. Or sadly, we also have dogs we've taken in that have lived in a home their whole lives, and now for reasons beyond their control, they are with us.

Side note- 3 of the dogs we have now are so "out of their element" that staff has been rotating taking them home at night to help them decompress.

Stop by one day and take a dog out on a date! We're open Wednesday through Saturday from 10-4:00.
