We are committed to doing this the right way and saving as many dogs as we can along the way. We can`t save them all, but we save as many as we can.
The Webster County Animal Shelter is a County run Taxpayer funded facility. We do on occasion have to euthanize some dogs for health or aggression issues, but we have been "NO KILL" since 2016. We ask that you consider adopting from us and save a life in the process! We do not take any Cats at this time. We do not have a place to house them.

Sookie has been waiting 172 days for someone to see her & give her a chance. She has had ZERO APPLICATIONS submitted on her. We don’t understand why she is such a smart girl. She knows many commands, eager to please and listens so well. She also gets along with other dogs, loves kids, just wants to please her owner. She does need a home with NO CATS. She is spayed & microchipped and 7 years young.
Her adoption is SPONSORED

2025 YEAR END REVIEW
We took in 284 dogs total in 2025, had 135 dogs adopted, 43 Returned to Owner and 84 sent to Rescue. We ended the year with 32 dogs in the shelter, and 10 dogs in foster care.
We also reached our goal of 90% Live Release rate making it 10 straight years we have hit that goal.
We couldn't achieve any of this without support from our community and our partners. Thank you to WebCo Pawsitive Solutions for all of the financial assistance and overall support you guys have provided over the years. We also are very grateful to all of our volunteers that come to shelter and help at adoption events.
Also, a big thank you to all of our staff whether they clean kennels, answer phones or anything in between. They have worked so hard to make 2025 a success. Another really good year in the books!

🐾 Meet Kodiak 🐾
Kodiak is a 3-year-old Siberian Husky who is loving, gentle, and has an all-around great personality. He does well with other dogs and kids, and cat testing can be done upon request.
He loves being outdoors and would thrive in an active home. Kodiak is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and his adoption is fully sponsored.

🐾 Meet Ryder! 🐾
Ryder is an adorable 14-week-old German Shepherd mix with all the charm, curiosity, and energy that comes with being a puppy.
Like any puppy, Ryder will need time, patience, and proper training — learning to walk on a leash, potty training, appropriate chewing, and all the basics that come with raising a well-mannered dog. Puppies are a commitment, but the reward is a lifetime companion.
The good news? Ryder is already off to a great start!
✔️ Does great with other dogs
✔️ Did well with cats
✔️ Loves kids (because honestly… what puppy doesn’t? 😊)
If you’re fully committed to putting in the work puppies require and ready to add a sweet, playful boy to your family, Ryder may be the perfect match for you.

The Webster County Animal Shelter is a County run Taxpayer funded facility. We are a "No kill " Shelter, unfortunately we do on occasion have to euthanize some dogs , because of health or Temperament issues . We ask that you consider adopting from us and save a life in the process! We do not take any Cats at this time. We do not have a place to house them.
We have a 5000 square foot facility located in Dixon that was built in 2014. This new facility allows us to house up to 50 animals at a time with out doubling them up. It also makes it possible to house them longer. We keep healthy animals until they are rescued or adopted. We have rescue partners that pull dogs on a regular basis to help make space for other animals.
Starting in September of 2015 we partnered with PetSmart Charities to start a Rescue program. We have since received over $100,000 in grant money to fund that program. It allows us to partner with Rescue groups from Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Indiana. All of these groups receive healthy vaccinated animals from us and find them homes. Sometimes they find a home with in a few days.
We are only a staff of 2 full time employees, but we are dedicated to saving as many of these animals that we can. Webster County Animal Care and Control is a safe place for the homeless dogs of Webster County. We will always do our best to care for the animals that are housed in our facility.
In late 2019 our supporters formed a friends of the shelter group to help support the dogs in our shelter. This group is called WebCo Pawsitive Solutions. We are excited about this partnership and can’t wait to see what the future brings. WPS will be fundraising for our dogs and helping to find them homes as well as establishing a group of volunteers to help at the shelter.
We have had a Live Release of 90% or better since 2016. That is because of great Rescue Partners like the Love Train. We are very pleased that since 2014 we have completely turned around what was once an awful situation and made it into a great place for the homeless animals of our County. Unfortunate outcomes for dogs are very few these days. We are very grateful to our Rescue Partners and the community for their continued support to help make this shelter into what it has become.
