There is something about farm life that is so peaceful.

We can provide food for us in case anything happened, we know our animals are loved & cared for during the time they are with us. The nature and wildlife is beautiful. Walking outside and the fresh air filled with the scent of blooming flowers, it’s a reminder that life is beautiful.

I wouldn’t want to live any other way♥️🌾🐝

It’s been a busy weekend!

Some rabbits hopped to their new homes, our meat birds were harvested, and concrete has been poured for our chicken coop!

Tomorrow we will be cleaning the barn & building the chicken coop, so we can get our girls outside and comfortable. Plus, we need some bugs eaten!

4D & Marge were both put in with bucks, but I’m unsure if it was successful due to the heat, they more-so just relaxed. Gambler will possibly be bred tomorrow.

This was Lane & I’s first time butchering chickens together, the way we found was so quick & easy. Definitely will be doing it the next time around with some adjustments. Now that we have it down, we will be ordering around 75 next time!

Next weekend, we will be harvesting a few rabbits & possibly a few more meat birds who needed a bit more time to grow. Our meat birds were all different ages as many were “donated” to us (due to injuries or being too “old/big” or we got them when on clearance.

Peep Cobbler, our bronze turkey! His poor wing broke today, so we will be watching him (it’s probably a “her”) to see if it can heal without too much trouble. It was a freak accident, but my fault. I truthfully don’t expect it to heal, but I’m really hoping it will! Otherwise, he may be on the list for next week:(

Herd dispersal coming within the next month!!

Some proven stock & lots of JRs!! (what’s left after culls).

You saw the fur, but… These carcass weights. That LOIN. None over 14 weeks, and could have been processed sooner. THIS is why we should breed to the SOP (Standard of Perfection.) Breed so hard that even your culls are impressive. That is the point. 👏🏼

Not, “It doesn’t matter. They are going in the freezer anyway.” On the contrary, that’s why it does matter. And we all know that they all don’t go in the freezer, no matter what is said.

Breed a better rabbit. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

*Cough* I mean, grow better kale. 🥬

We got April Fool’s babies & it’s no joke!

Miss Hayes finally released them & she is doing a great job. She had 10, but one was DOA. Leaving us with three blacks & SIX chocolates!!🤩🤩

I am super excited to see how these guys mature. The plan is to *hopefully* keep 1-2 out of this litter.

Black Ice x Hayes Kits.

Gambler & Marge are due in 2-4 days! If they do what they did last time, they will deliver a day later than expected & an hour difference of each other. So we should have more babies by Sunday evening. Fingers crossed Marge actually attempts to nest in the nest box this time!

We welcomed new additions to our home this weekend!
Lane & I are both happy watching our little homestead grow— slowly.
Meet Cherokee & Navo (Nah-Voh)

Cherokee is about a 10wk old gold Nigerian dwarf buckling & Navo is a Mini Nubian about 6-8mo. Both are very sweet!

We also welcomed 2 Ayam Cemanis! I plan to get more in the future to start breeding, but we have plenty of chicks right now & still finishing our chicken coop.

3 of our does are due within 5 days, so they all got nest boxes today! We are impatiently waiting to welcome the babies.

We have 3 does due within the next 2 weeks!! 🤞

Any guesses as to how many?
Hayes & Marge are 2nd time mommas, both were not great first timers.
Gambler is a wonderful mom & proven!

Picture of our last 2 who survived from the litters born on Christmas Eve.
