🐺Nazgul the Wolfdog Steals Hearts at the Olympic Cross-Country Sprint! 🇮🇹❄️

TESERO, Italy — This week at the Women’s Team Sprint Cross-Country Skiing Qualification at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, an unexpected — and completely heart-warming — moment had fans cheering just as loudly as they did for the athletes.

As skiers from Team Croatia and Team Australia powered toward the finish line, a local two-year-old Czechoslovakian Wolfdog named Nazgul bounded onto the snow-covered course, running with the effortless athleticism his breed is known for.

The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog — also called the Czechoslovakian Vlcak — was originally developed in 1955 by crossing German Shepherds with Carpathian wolves, bred for stamina, intelligence and resilience in harsh terrain. Watching Nazgul glide across the snow, it was clear he felt completely at home on the winter course.

Croatian skier Tena Hadzic, 21, encountered Nazgul in the homestretch and later laughed about the surreal but joyful moment. The athletes remained calm, no one was injured, and volunteers quickly and safely guided Nazgul off the track.

Most importantly — Nazgul was safely reunited with his owner, who had been staying locally. What could have been chaos instead became one of the most wholesome highlights of the Games.

For a few magical seconds, the Olympic stage belonged to a wolfdog — not as a disruption, but as a reminder of pure instinct, energy and joy.

And honestly? He ran it beautifully. 🐺❄️

Would you have cheered for Nazgul too?
