“Get in loser, we’re headed to the vet”

-Jimmy Dean

Lots of questions about Jimmy. At this point, let me tell ya, ”no news is good news”.

He is breathing better. Eating is still a challenge as his teeth are SO SO rotten. Food that is too wet or sticky comes out his nose, food that is too hard or small he chokes on and passes out 😳 so finding the happy medium there has been a challenge.

He’s now been on a steroid, diuretic, and antibiotic for 5 days and the improvements have been great, especially since 5 days ago we rushed a BLUE, almost dead Jimmy Dean dog to the vet.

My hope today is that he is well enough the schedule his very very needed surgery for his rotted teeth and air passageways. We will keep you posted!

The face you make when you’re the full package and you know it. 💃💁‍♀️

Molly has a list of requirements for her adopters. We told her it’s a bittttt on the high maintenance side but we will see what we can do.

She wants an adopter who will keep her coat in tip top shape, she’s wants at least 2-3 pup cups a week, and she wants to sit in the front seat (don’t worry, your husband will be fine sitting in the back seat or the box of the truck 🙃😉)

In all honesty, Molly is a super sweet girl. She is very petite (only about 7 lbs) but can still hold her own around bigger dogs. Molly does great around kids who are respectful to animals, and her foster said she does great in the house.

We believe Molly is a Japanese Chin mix and around 1-2 years old.

Is love enough?

It’s been one whole week with this sick, extremely neglected boy. Joining us from an ND impound, Jimmy is a perfect example of horrible breeding and the terrible neglect many dogs like Jimmy endure.

The English Bulldog breed has been essentially destroyed over the years. They’ve been bred to be shorter and wider. They’ve been bred to have a squished in, flat face with an underbite only a “mother could love” resulting in an insane amount of health issues.

Frankly put, they’ve been bred to suffer and the reputable breeders for English Bulldogs are few and far between.

The puppies are sold for thousands and people sure don’t have an issue paying. BUT when it comes time to properly vet these man made genetic messes that’s when the problem arises.

When they aren’t properly cared for you get a dog like Darla, Jimmy, Gumbo etc… just a few of the bulldogs that we have had in rescue with a plethora of health issues that have had to suffer due to their owners neglectfulness, Jimmy being no exception.

Sure- Darla, Jimmy, and Gumbo might have been loved by their owners but is love enough when a dog doesn’t get the vet care they deserve? Causing the dog to suffer for years?

The condition Jimmy came to us in was simply heartbreaking. It’s hard not to get angry when we get dogs like Jimmy in. Knowing how much pain he has had to endure is just 💔😤

•His nails were so long they were curling.

•EVERY. SINGLE tooth in his mouth is rotting/infected/decaying. In fact, multiple vets have now said he has the worst teeth they have ever seen. His mouth BLEEDS when he eats. We have to soften his food and feed him carefully with a plastic spoon.

•He can barely breathe due to the excess tissue surrounding his airway that he should have had surgery on years ago.

•Due to his very strange anatomy his nostrils need to be widened using a laser

•He has Entropion. A condition where his eyelids rotate and rub against his eyeballs causing irritation and pain.

Jimmy had to be rushed to Bismarck yesterday when he started to tank. By time we got to Bismarck he was the color blue due to lack of oxygen. He is doing better today but we will be walking on pins and needles the next couple of days.

Stay tuned.

Just over here sad for the underdogs.

The ones people definitely aren’t fighting over. The ones that are at most risk, but get the least amount of attention. The ones that need help the most, but rarely have eager fosters lining up to meet.

Our city shelter hasn’t had to euthanize due to space and for that we are incredibly thankful for but they are filling up fast and if someone doesn’t take a chance on them soon who knows what their fate will hold.

Please consider an underdog. They might not be “trendy” or easy or cute and little but they still deserve a fair chance at life.

If you can foster please fill out an app below. We are going to try and get them all fully vetted tomorrow in hopes to make them more desirable for rescues/fosters/adopters.

From the morning all the way to the night our email, messenger, and personal phone looks something like this.

“I need to surrender a dog. Tomorrow”

Sometimes I feel people think we are miracle workers. Able to pull a “great home” out of thin air in 24 hrs. Perhaps it’s our fault after all. Did we make our community believe ”rescuing” was easy? That animal ownership was a breeze? That an impulse comment on the ND surrender FB group saying, “I’ll take him” without a second thought was OK because a “rescue will just take him” when they came to the reality that working 10 hrs+ and keeping a cattle dog puppy in an apartment is a horrible idea?

If you’re in the animal rescue world chances are that you’re feeling the sting. The bitter sting. “Emptying the ocean with a teaspoon” sting. The I’m f$!@?!$ exhausted sting.

A couple weeks ago I picked up a frantic call from a rescue pal. She witnessed one of the saddest animal abuse cases to date. A couple hours later we watched yet another rescue friend take on a horrible dog starvation case where multiple dogs were dead. You guys, we cannot do this much longer.

I’m not hear to sugarcoat. The dog issue in ND is bad. So so bad. The people who have litters of puppies cannot even GIVE AWAY their pups anymore. In fact, we have been asked to take many “left over” 8-10 week old pups from “casual breeding”. We’ve been told, “I like to have a litter of pups every year for extra spending cash” but they are surprised when they cannot even sell 2 out of the 10. These are people who had no problem selling their pups in the past.

ND- our shelters are full and our rescues are exhausted and i truly believe we cannot “rescue” our way out of this mess. It’s time for a change.

If you are needing to surrender your animal please message us photos and info and we will do what we can to help.

All of our available dogs are posted here on our page and are also posted on our website under “Adopt ME”.

We are always looking for more Fosters. The more fosters we have the more animals we can help! Consider becoming a foster parent and helping these amazing animals find new homes. With the right amount of love and patience these dogs go from being scared and abandoned to feeling safe and loved! We greatly appreciate all the help we can get! Weather it’s fostering, transporting, volunteering at events or donating goods we are always looking for help. Ask us today how you can help!
