DIET PLANS - New Puppy Clients Please Read Carefully! These are the same 2 Diet plans sent to me by Van Den Heuvel K9 where all my dogs are from. My dogs eat the 100% Raw Diet Plan. There is a Modified Raw/Kibble 70/30 Plan listed as well. These are the 2 Diet Plans I endorse:
PLAN #1
*100% Raw Diet Plan - preferred and most Economical (if you buy a good grinder and make your own).
This is a 100% raw diet plan for your puppy. I will follow with the modified raw as well. Either choice will provide excellent nutrition for your new family member. One meal will simply be a raw bone in meat meal (quarter, necks, etc), and one will be a ground meat meal. Make sure your ground meat meal isn’t too lean. 73/27 hamburger is great, and you may mix it in with ground turkey, chicken, or venison. Pork is not as desirable. Try to keep your ground meat at minimum 20% fat. Ideally, use a meat grinder with bone in poultry ground up, mixed with some 73/27 hamburger. Hamburger isn’t necessary though. I have an LEM #32, 1.5hp and it can handle chicken drumsticks and reasonably quarters. That grinder grinds 400 lb. chicken drumsticks each month for my 5 dogs, so it would last forever with 1 dog. Grinders strong enough to grind bones and last start around $500. The investment will pay for itself in 2 months though. Mix the ground meat with the veggie/fruit purée and supplements listed below for amazing food. This is how you would do it on your own. There are some premade mixes below. Most are excellent but will be much more expensive. they will be more expensive. Putting together a raw diet on your own is the cheapest way to feed a premium diet. I’m sure there are meat departments that will order a couple cases no problem. Frozen fruits and veggies are cheap also. Even with the supplements, if you buy the meat at the right place you will still pay less than a premium dog food, which start at about $2.50lb. Raw bones is of utmost importance for your pups joints to develop properly. Never feed a boneless meat in substitute of the raw bone in meal.
These are the pre-made companies if you would like to make things easier.
I have listed the link to the pre-made raw diet company Darwins. It is really a superior raw dog food company that has a great list of pre-made blends. This is ideally what I would recommend for your new family member if you need a premade food to help you with feeding a complete raw diet.
You may also do your own raw blend with raw ground meat, 10% organ meat added to the ground, your egg, supplements, and a small amount of pureed fruit and veggies ie. a tablespoon. Good pureed fruit and veggie options are carrot, blueberries, apples, spinach, pumpkin etc.

Give the complete blends on whatever company you choose to go with. Add one of the following each day for a bony meat meal. BONES MUST ALWAYS BE GIVEN RAW, SO THEY DO NOT SPLINTER:
Evening Meal is 100% RAW
Select one of the following choices:
1 chicken quarter
small handful of chicken necks
1 turkey neck
1 ox tail
1 chicken back
handful of chicken wings
This is your bony meat meal, so it MUST ALWAYS BE RAW!!! NEVER give a dog cooked bones because they splinter and can perforate the dog's intestines causing death. Raw bones are incredibly important to the health of your dog, so the above choices are excellent.
Give the following supplements daily and your diet will be complete:

PLAN #2 - Modified Raw/Kibble 70/30 Diet Plan:
I have listed a modified raw diet choice for you below. The 100% raw is optimal in the previous E-mail, but this is a nice diet plan as well.
There are two types of optimal feeding that you may choose for your new puppy:
1) A 100% raw diet
2) A 70%-80% raw to 20%-30% dry base food
Give the dry base according to the instructions for 1 meal. Orijen and or Acana are what I recommend if you opt to not feed a 100% raw diet, but make certain to add the ground meat, egg, raw supplements etc to it. Any Holistic dry food that is used in a modified raw diet MUST be grain free. Unless it is Orijen, never feed a puppy a food that is more than 30% Protein. Acana and Orijen are made by the same company. I prefer Acana for this plan. It is cheaper, and is higher in fruits and veggies. This will allow you to add less veggie/fruit purée. If you are in a hurry you can put the fruits and veggies in without blending them. You will need to see if your dog actually eats them that way though. Many won’t. If using this plan I prefer to feed a dry food that isn’t poultry based, since you raw bone in meal is likely to be chicken or turkey.
MODIFIED RAW DIET BELOW:
Here is an example of the 70-80% raw to 20%-30% dry base
Morning Meal
Dry base per instruction (not above 30% protein unless it’s Orijen or Acana) for 1 meal only
1/2 cup ground RAW meat i.e. beef, or chicken, or turkey, or bison
1 RAW egg yolk
1/2-1 tsp Spirulina (Go up to 2 level tsp at 6 months of age)
1/2 tsp Grass juice powder (Go up to 2 level tsp at 6 months of age)
500 milligrams of Vit. C (at 4 months go up to 1000 milligrams and at 6 months to 2000 milligrams/daily)
1/4 tsp Nordic Naturals fish oil
Cosequin or Recovery SA as directed
Evening Meal is 100% RAW
Select one of the following choices:
1 chicken quarter
small handful of chicken necks
1 turkey neck
1 ox tail
1 chicken back
handful of chicken wings
This is your bony meat meal, so it MUST ALWAYS BE RAW!!! NEVER give a dog cooked bones because they splinter and can perforate the dog's intestines causing death. Raw bones are incredibly important to the health of your dog, so the above choices are excellent.
