Here’s what most owners get wrong:

They don’t proof recall around distractions

They only use recall when fun is about to end

They repeat the cue over and over

There’s no consistent consequence for ignoring it

The Fix:

✅ Train recall like it’s life or death

✅ Use long lines to create follow-through

✅ Reward BIG - especially when distractions are high

✅ Stop calling them just to end play

✅ Make coming to you the best decision, every time

Once you do this - your recall will begin to have value again

Most people think protection dogs are “aggressive.”

What they don’t realize is that true protection work is built on mutual trust, respect, and control.

Any dog can (and will) bark at a perceived threat.

But 95% of dogs won’t hold a command under that pressure.

They will not wait for permission.

Or stop when told.

That’s the difference between a trained protector…

And a dangerous liability.

Protection dogs follow rules.

They know the line - and they respect the line.

Because they trust their handler more than their own instincts.

It’s not about teaching a dog to bite.

It’s about teaching them when not to.

Training tools are another form of communication

But we don’t want to be reliant upon the tools for the dog to listen

And we don’t wanna handicap ourselves by taking those tools away either

Because we never know what may happen, and when we might need to utilize them in certain situations

Every time a dog leaves our property - whether it’s boarding, training, or fostering - a piece of us leaves with them.

We pour our time, our energy, our hearts into these dogs.

Their routines become our routines.

Their wins feel like ours.

And when they go home, we feel it.

Your dog’s training doesn’t fail outside because they’re stubborn or difficult.

Most of the time it fails because they were never trained in that context to begin with.

A dog needs socilization - not jus with other dogs, or people, but with environments.

Here’s a rule of thumb:

🟡 Inside the house? That’s kindergarten.
🟢 Backyard? Elementary school.
🔵 Out on the street? College.
🔴 Farmer’s Market, Lowes or Petsmart? Final exams.

Stop expecting PhD results from a dog that’s still learning their ABCs.

At Lone Star State K9, service isn’t just a word - it’s part of our DNA.

Our co-founder, Dakoda, served in the U.S. Air Force for 11 years before moving to the DoD as Lead Trainer.

He's even worked alongside the United States Secret Service, United States Department of Energy, as well as law enforcement agencies across the country.

So you could say we know firsthand what it means to build trust, loyalty, respect, and to walk beside a partner who would give everything for you.

That’s the kind of bond we strive to create for every dog and owner who comes through our training program.
