Fields Of Plenty

Fields Of Plenty Fields of Plenty is a small farm in Detroit that grows vegetables, herbs, and flowers. We also sell holiday wreaths and vegetable transplants.

Most of our produce is marketed through City Commons CSA, as well as the Grown in Detroit cooperative and other venues. We also make holiday wreaths in season and sell vegetable and flower transplants in the spring.

Almost 20 years ago I was first indoctrinated to the idea of a food co-op. I then spent the next several years helping to try and start one in Walla Walla. There were ups and down way too numerous to list here, a buying club, a mini store in the living room of a college house, a CSA type model... Ultimately it never resulted in a brick and mortar store, but great relationships and much good food was eaten along the way. It was my entry point to local food, which ultimately lead me to farming and so many other things.

I learned shortly after moving to Detroit that there was an effort afoot to start a food co-op. I wasn't as involved this time around, but I was one of the first 100 members to sign up. I watched the building go up over the past year plus. And now, today, I actually went into a co-op that I am a member of and shopped there. Truly an almost 20 year journey, and it ended up just 6 blocks from my house.

Long live the Detroit People's Food Co-op!

Here is *almost* all of the City Commons Crew (missing Candi Franklin and CWO FARMS ).

It is tough to get a bunch of busy farmers together in the same place and the same time- and to catch us without dirt on our face to boot! But Michigan Good Food Fund asked us for a head shot and as a cooperative we knew we needed to try and get as many of us in there as possible!

In case you missed it, we received a Seed Award grant from MIGFF. We'll be using most of the funds to hire a contractor to do a bunch of our Admin and Logistics stuff this coming year. This should lead to a much smoother customer experience AND free us farmers up to grow more produce and flowers for the CSA (and maybe even take a break from time to time).

Hi friends- I need help moving a very large tarp at my garden. If I get several people to help it should only take about 15 minutes.

If you are available on Saturday at about 11 AM please come by my garden (9219 Cameron St). Bring work gloves if you can and clothes that can get dirty. I will be very grateful for any assistance!
