🍩 Shoutout to our amazing partners at Dutch Girl Donuts! 🍩

During an exciting assembly at Renaissance High School, we not only got to share insights about composting and the Scrap Soils Summer Cohort program but also celebrated generosity and student engagement. Dutch Girl Donuts graciously donated two dozen donuts for the event, which became the highlight of a fun competition! 🎉

A big congratulations to the lucky students who won these delicious treats, and thank you, Dutch Girl Donuts, for not only sweetening the day but also for composting your kitchen scraps with Scrap Soils. 🌱 Your dedication to sustainability and our community is inspiring! 🙌🏽

Meet Tolu! 🎓✨ A recent graduate of Renaissance High School, Tolu joined us in our Renaissance High Assembly to share his journey in the Scrap Soils Summer Cohort. During his talk, he inspired students by discussing how the program helped him develop entrepreneurial skills, learn about grant funding, and make a positive impact on the environment through composting! Tolu’s address was incredibly well received by his peers and we’re more than ecstatic to continue our cohort this coming summer 🌍👏.

Big thanks to Renaissance High School for hosting us this this past November! 🙌 Our Scrap Soils team has had a transformative time closing out our annual summer cohort program with Renaissance high school ! 🌱✨

This summer, students from Ms. Anderson’s class gained hands-on experience applying for grants, understanding composting’s environmental impact, and driving change in their communities. The cohort is all about building entrepreneurial skills, making a social impact, and growing professionally.

During the assembly, we played an exciting interactive game to test composting knowledge (swipe for the Kahoot moment 📸). Fun fact: Less than half the students raised their hands when we asked if they were familiar with composting—so we were thrilled to inspire them to think sustainably! 🌍

We recently had the pleasure of meeting with several members of the OSB team during a visit to Brother Nature Farm, the site for the composting component of our autonomous food waste pilot project. As partners in this initiative, we are excited to explore the market and logistical potential for autonomous material pickup and to see how this project will benefit Detroiters and enhance Detroit’s green spaces. This month has been exceptional as we’ve collaborate with and for an autonomous food waste collection. Using an autonomous robot to pick up food waste has helped us uncover the most sustainable methods for diverting food waste in Detroit. We are fortunate to work with leaders in both the tech and green space to drive this innovative initiative forward.

After over a year of planning, we are finally ready for the soft launch of our autonomous food waste collection program in North Corktown! This robot will help us discover the best ways to sustainably divert food waste for the city of Detroit.
