The South Louisiana Veterinary Association shall be dedicated to fostering and preserving the health and well-being of animals, preventing the spread of disease to both animals and people, and protecting the institution of and camaraderie within veterinary medicine, through education of both the public and the veterinary community, by acting as liaison to the public and governing officials, and through other activities deemed reasonable by our constituency to achieve these goals.

WHAT: Palm Sunday Rabies Drive

WHEN: Palm Sunday, April 2nd, 2023 at 1-5 p.m.

WHERE: 7 Fire Department locations in Orleans Parish
• Engine 21 – 3940 Paris Ave.
• Engine 16 – 2000 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.
• Engine 17 – 4115 Woodland Dr.
• Engine 25 – 2430 S. Carrollton Ave.
• Engine 35 – 964 N. Carrollton Ave.
• Engine 36 – 5403 Read Blvd.
• Engine 39 – 5600 Claiborne Ave.

WHY: Once a rabies infection is established, there's no effective treatment. Rabies vaccinations are required by law in Orleans Parish with a tag evidencing the collar or harness of the cat or dog. Essentially, it is important to keep your pets protected.

HOW much?: $15 Cash only. For only $15, Orleans Parish residents will receive a rabies vaccination, tag, and license good for 1 year only. Out-of-parish residents are welcome but will only receive the rabies vaccine and will need to get the tag and license from their parish’s shelter.

*Please note that all dogs MUST be on a leash and all cats MUST be in a carrier or on a leash and this event is CASH ONLY. Hosting this event are the Louisiana SPCA, Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association - SLVA, and the City of New Orleans Fire Department. We hope to see you there!

We can't wait for the annual Palm Sunday Rabies Drive! Thank you to all our veterinary volunteers, along with those from the SPCA and Delgado.
