In December Josie arrived at the ranch all the way from Texas. When we looked at the videos of her before we said we would take her she was lame on the right front and left hind. We went ahead and had her hauled 2000 miles to us in hopes of fixing her to where a kid could ride her. She is 17 years old and has been shown aqha her whole life and knowing this we thought it would be great to have her in our herd. On arrival to us her feet where long and hadn’t been done for a while. I went ahead and put shoes on her. Her front right is crooked at the p1 so I balanced it as good as I could. I put trailers on the back shoes to help relieve stress on her hocks. Had the vet out the end of December and did x-rays on left hind found nothing wrong. Didn’t feel like the front was as bad so we decided to wait a month and look at her again. The month of January I started her on adequan and previcox and we started riding her. She would seem to be good then the next day bad. The vet came back out on February 2 and we decided to take x-rays of the front. Our hopes where that x-rays would be clean and just need to keep correcting her with shoeing and we would inject her hocks. Did x-rays and it didn’t go the way we hoped. It looks like the navicular bone had broke and has a cyst and lesions. After going over our options with the vet we decided to inject the coffin joint and start to wedge her up to relieve her navicular bone from the deep digital flexor tendon. We will keep our fingers crossed with her and this horrible prognosis. I just did a 2degree wedge and an aluminum egg-bar shoe this time. Next time I shoe her I will go to a kbw navicular shoe. We will keep everyone up to date on Josie. Say some prayers for her!
