A very special Happy Birthday to our amazing hospital manager, Shari! 🎉🎂

Today we celebrated all that she does for our hospital, our team, and our patients. Shari has one of the biggest hearts and is always willing to go above and beyond to help clients and their pets. Her dedication, leadership, kindness, and support make a difference every single day.

We truly don’t know what we would do without her, and we are so grateful to have her leading our team. We are all incredibly blessed to work alongside you.

Wishing you the happiest birthday, Shari! We hope your day is as wonderful as you are! ❤️🐾

Mae Mae update 6/16/26 🩷

06/16/2026

Today Teddy came in for his blood pressure recheck. A few weeks ago we did routine annual bloodwork and urine testing. He was acting completely normal at home, but his urine showed elevated protein levels. That finding prompted us to check his blood pressure—and sure enough, it was high.

Certain breeds, including Miniature Schnauzers, Shih Tzus, and Boxers, can be more prone to developing high blood pressure as they age. High blood pressure can silently damage the kidneys, eyes, heart, and brain long before you notice symptoms.

For pets over 7 years old, I recommend discussing with your vet:
✅ Annual bloodwork
✅ Annual urine testing
✅ Annual blood pressure checks

A quick urine sample can provide a lot of valuable information. The best sample for evaluating how well the kidneys are concentrating urine is a first-morning, mid-stream urine sample.

Many pets with kidney disease or high blood pressure don’t show obvious signs until the disease is advanced. Preventive screening helps us find problems early, when we have the best chance to manage them.

Your pet may look healthy on the outside—but their lab work can tell a different story. ❤️🐾

No doubt everyone that works in our hospital loves ALL animals! 🩷

At Northwest Animal Hospital, we believe every patient deserves to be treated with love, kindness, and respect. ❤️

We strive to provide safe, compassionate care by moving at each pet’s pace, respecting their boundaries, and creating as low-stress an experience as possible. We listen not only to our patients, but also to their families, because no one knows a pet better than their owner.

We always appreciate when clients let us know if their pet is nervous or stressed at the veterinary clinic. This helps us tailor our approach to keep both pets and staff safe while making the visit a more positive experience.

Our goal is for every appointment to be as calm, comfortable, and successful as Ziggy’s exam was today. When we work together and respect what our patients are telling us, veterinary visits can be a whole lot less scary and a lot more peaceful. 🩷🐾

Update 6.9.26– Despite everything she has been through in her short little life, Mae Mae remains the sweetest, most cuddly kitten. 💕 She continues to heal more and more each day, and it’s been incredible to watch her progress.

One of the biggest stars of her recovery? Honey! 🍯✨ Its natural healing properties have helped support her wound care, and she is doing amazingly well. Best of all, she’s healing beautifully without antibiotics. 🫶🏼

Resilient, loving, and full of purrs—Mae Mae is proof that even the tiniest patients can be incredibly strong. 🐾❤️

This weekend Dr. Draca went to Heartland Animal Shelter to volunteer her acupuncture services for a cat with hip pain.

Acupuncture can be a valuable tool for managing pain, improving mobility, and enhancing quality of life in both cats and dogs. From arthritis and orthopedic conditions to neurologic disorders and chronic pain, many feline patients can benefit from an integrative approach to care.

If you’re wondering whether your cat may be a candidate for acupuncture, schedule an exam with Dr. Draca. Together, we can determine if acupuncture may help your pet feel more comfortable and improve their overall well-being. 🐱💕🐾

When pets are painful or anxious, we at Northwest Animal Hospital always strive to make exams and treatments as low-stress and comfortable as possible. Every pet is different, and we are happy to work with owners to provide accommodations that help their pet feel safe during their visit. If your pet has special needs, anxiety, mobility issues, or requires a gentler approach, please call ahead so we can do our best to accommodate you.

Today, Dr. Draca’s patient Luca got to enjoy some sunshine during his acupuncture treatment. ☀️💕
