We’re excited to be teaming up with Chicago English Bulldog Rescue to help sweet Cooper on his journey to better health. ❤️🐾

Cooper has been battling chronic skin issues and painful ear infections, and we’re hopeful that an integrative approach can help him feel his best. While Dr. Draca is away on PTO, Dr. McCoy will be continuing Cooper’s care, including ozone therapy treatments, to keep his progress moving forward.

A huge thank you to our hospital manager, Shari, for making this connection and helping bring everyone together with one goal in mind: getting Cooper healthy, comfortable, and ready to find his forever home!

Did you know fiber is one of the most underrated nutrients in veterinary medicine? 🌱🐶🐱

Fiber does much more than help with constipation! The right type and amount of fiber can:
• 🦠 Support a healthy gut microbiome (acts as a prebiotic)
• 💩 Improve stool quality—helping both diarrhea and constipation
• ⚖️ Promote healthy weight management by increasing fullness
• 🩸 Help regulate blood sugar in diabetic pets
• 🐾 Support pets with a**l gland disease, colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and other digestive conditions
• 🦷 Even help reduce plaque in some veterinary dental diets

Not all fiber is the same. Soluble fiber feeds beneficial gut bacteria, while insoluble fiber adds bulk to stool and keeps the digestive tract moving. Together, they play an important role in digestive and overall health.

Every pet is different, so the best fiber source depends on their specific medical condition. Talk with your veterinarian before making dietary changes!

🐱 Indoor cats deserve a little bit of the outdoors too! ☀️🌿

Many people think keeping cats indoors means they don’t need enrichment, but giving them safe access to fresh air, sunshine, and new sights can make a huge difference in their physical and mental health.

Outdoor enrichment can help:
🐾 Reduce boredom and stress
🐾 Provide important mental stimulation
🐾 Satisfy natural instincts like watching birds, insects, and squirrels
🐾 Improve overall quality of life

The good news is your cat doesn’t have to roam outside to enjoy these benefits! Safe options include:
🌞 A secure catio
🪟 A screened-in porch or sunroom
🌿 A cat-safe enclosed patio
🪺 A window perch with the window open and a secure screen
🐈 Harness and leash walks for adventurous cats

Even something as simple as an open screened window can provide hours of entertainment through new smells, sounds, and fresh air.

While we don’t recommend allowing cats to roam freely outdoors due to risks like cars, predators, diseases, and getting lost, we absolutely encourage safe, supervised ways for them to experience the outdoors.

A little enrichment can go a long way toward helping your feline friend live a happier, healthier life. ❤️🐈

Important Hospital Update — Wednesday, July 29th

Today, Wednesday, July 29th, we will not have a veterinarian on staff. Our office will remain open until 4:00 PM.

If your pet needs veterinary care today, you are still welcome to call our office. Our team will be happy to help direct you to another animal hospital in the area that may be able to assist you.

🐾 Veterinary appointments will resume tomorrow, Thursday, July 30th.

Prescription Refills:
With our primary veterinarian, Dr. Draca, out of the country until August 18th, prescription refill requests may take up to 48 hours to be completed. We appreciate your patience and encourage you to request refills before your pet runs out of medication whenever possible.

Questions for a Doctor:
During this time, if you have a medical question or concern about your pet, we ask that you schedule an appointment with one of our available veterinarians so your concerns can be addressed appropriately in person.

Our team can still take messages for Dr. Draca while she is away; however, because she is out of the country, we cannot guarantee when she will be able to respond to messages.

Dr. Draca will return to the office on August 18th.

Meet Flynn. 🐾❤️

Flynn is a newly adopted puppy who has already been through so much in his short life. Because veterinary visits have been stressful for him, we wanted to make today’s experience as calm and fear-free as possible. Instead of adding more stress, we placed him in a quiet kennel where he could comfortably inhale his nebulization treatment.

For this treatment, olive oil is ozonated to create ozone-derived compounds (ozonides) that can be safely nebulized and inhaled. This therapy is used with the goal of supporting the body’s natural immune response and may help support recovery in some patients with viral or bacterial respiratory illness.

Nebulization treatments can be repeated as needed, typically 1–3 times per week depending on the patient’s condition and response to therapy.

Every patient deserves care that treats not only their illness, but also their emotional well-being. Sometimes the best medicine starts with making them feel safe. 💙

Dear Northwest Animal Hospital families,

Please note that Dr. Draca will be out of the office from July 29th through August 17th. During this time, we have several experienced relief veterinarians scheduled to help ensure your pets continue to receive the care they need.

At this time, Dr. Draca is our only full-time veterinarian, and we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding while she is away.

If you have a preference for a specific veterinarian, we encourage you to call the office in advance to schedule your appointment with your preferred doctor, as appointment availability is limited and demand remains high.

We are actively working to grow our team and hope to welcome another full-time veterinarian to our practice in the near future.

Thank you for your continued trust, support, and understanding. It is truly an honor to care for your beloved pets, and we look forward to continuing to serve you and your furry family members.

We’ve been hearing wonderful feedback from clients who have trusted Dr. Draca with this new treatment option. While every patient is different and results can vary, it’s been incredibly rewarding to see so many positive experiences already.
